Hi all, after some help.
I have a 17 plate E89 20l N20 engine with 26k miles. The car has been driving fine until the other day when I went out and after 30 mins driving I started to lose power and the yellow temperature warning light came on and the cooling fan was running at maximum. I managed to get home and scanned it, the fault came up
System Explanation of DTC
Failure description
Status
ECM (Engine Control Module - DME/DDE)
3792
Engine Cooling System: Coolant Pump Speed Outside Of Tolerance
I monitored the coolant temperature and it was running at 88 degrees before rising to 118 degrees after the fan kicked in at full speed then back to 88 degrees.
If I drive at low speeds the temperature cycles from 88 to 95 degrees, but if I drive at a constant higher speed the temperature can read up to 118 degrees and the yellow warning comes on.
Do you think the water pump is at fault?
Seems odd for a car with such low mileage
Any help please.
