outside temp gauge - updated - more help required!!

Does anybody know where the sensor for the outside temperature is?

For the last month mine has either been reading a minus figure or over 30 degrees! I know the British weather is sporadic but I think the sensor has either given up or there is a piece of insulating dirt on it or something!

I think it's found behind the front bumper, near to the passenger side fog lamp (or where that would be if you don't have one)

Thanks. I'll try and have a look.

When driving to work at 7 this am it was telling me it was 27 degrees. I had the roof down and can confirm it was much cooler than that!!

This is correct - it is a small cone attached to the bottom of the air duct with a wire out the end of it. You may be able to clean it from underneath (not sure if it is 'open' below), or you can get at ot through the lower inspection hatch in the wheel arch

you can go in via the lower access panel in front of the wheel, use a 10p to open the panel you should need to have to take the wheel off

FInally got round to having a look

is this it?

And finally does anybody know the part number/where I can get a new temp sensor from?

Thanks!!

That's an extravagant way of opening those wheel arch covers. There is a cheaper option that works just as well. I find a 2p piece does the job and I keep all of the the 8p savings until I can afford a night out.

Do you throw the 2p away after then, if you were to keep it then the cost is nill :poke:

Horn?

Yup - that is the low tone, replaced mine today. The high tone is on the other side.

Your first link is not it ; your second link is the sensor

By the way, is that the ground you can see through the bottom in the third pic ? If so you have some trim missing (looks like it has been snapped off) that includes the fixing for the sensor :!:

You need one of these, part 6, the sensor sits in the top of the cone shape :

Not anywhere the price shown on realoem (I needed one, got ripped off with the undertray when a previous owner grounded it REAL hard). Bad news is the bumper may have to come off to replace it, unless you can jack the car right up and take the wheel off too :(

Thanks bing - the second link is a picture of the first link - I'm guessing just a bad diagram then!!

Yes that is the ground!! I put the car in a verge rather hard a few months ago when some idiot was taking a corner to fast ( ) - guess this is when I lost the trim and knackered the temp sensor!!

Not sure can be bothered to take bumper off! But guessing that its probably not designed to get wet in there like it will currently be doing so from road spray...
