Other Z owners.....

Maybe it's partly down to me being a nice young lady
The term 'poser' intrigues me, who would fit into that category?

People who own a Z4 - They are a poser just because they own a flash car?
People cruising in their cars around built up areas full of people craving attention?
People who regularly post pictures of their car on forums?
Or the person down the street who is constantly cleaning/polishing their car?

To be honest the only one of those examples that would fit what I had in mind when I said "poser" would be the second. I really enjoy washing and polishing my zed, but used to enjoy it almost as much with my last car which was an M reg 1.6 astra I find it relaxing and like to look after things. I posted after seeing one particular zed driver and found myself thinking "to$$er" and wondered if thats the sort of image we all portray. He was dressed like a contestant on the apprentice with massive designer sunglasses (you know the kinda girly looking ones) and appart from a lack any flashing/waving he didn't really do anything else wrong but it reminded me of a number of traits that I would associate with posers such as:

Always parking right in front of buildings or near the entrances to shopping centres so as many people can see as possible can see them getting in and out, I recon most forum users would be as far away as possible to avoid paintwork dings?

Doesn't generally care for whether the car is clean but if they're particularly wanting to impress someone they'll run in it through an automatic car wash

Will place their keys on a bar/table when they sit down with the roundel/ any other badge facing up but....

If you engaged them in conversation about the car would be able to tell you very little other then the manufacturer, model, colour and how much it cost

Interesting that a few of the posts said the zed isn't hardcore petrolohead material such as elises/imprezas, is there an intermediate term, motorphile perhaps?

I have couple of mates with Zeds. One is not a petrolhead by any description and rarely drives his car with any passion at all. But he always has wanted a BMW convertible so bought it when he could afford it.

I think, very generally the petrolheads will drive the bigger engines as speed will usually be a factor they have considered. Exception will be when age of driver and cost prevent them from owning a more powerful variant..

Erm I wear those big girly sun-glasses, but that is becuase my smaller ones the sun ends up coming in over the top of them and makes them pointless, for driving with the roof down the bigger ones are much better at doing there job.

I bet if you saw me you'd think I'm a right poser, I look after my body and wear nice clothes, and drive with the roof down alot as long as its remotely warm enough. But I do it for other reasons that posing.

Agree on most of your points though, exactly on the money really. I guess I'm 20% poser, 80% normal 8)

I've yet to see another coupe or another M coupe or roadster on the street here. Actually there was a white M roadster i saw parked on the side of the road last night when i went to Limassol with some friends but upon closer inspection its small and non drilled brakes proved it was a fake.

I do see other Z4's at least a couple of times a week though. I sometimes nod and smile but i never get a response back. Of course i could just not be noticing them because 90% of the time they have the hood up or the hardtop installed (why buy a roadster then??). In my car it's always windows down to better listen to that straight six unless it's raining.. I'm sure most people think im just doing it so that i can show off my car but i dont really care what they think.

Most other Z4 owners in my town are males with squeaky clean roadsters that drive around with the top up and aircon on. In other bigger towns it's the same but they usually drive around with the top down, wearing fashionable sunglasses and always park exactly in front of the cafe they're visiting. Well, to be perfectly honest so do i.. but that's only because there's a far smaller chance of getting your car dented or scratched as there's so many people around! Plus the cafe owners WANT people with nice cars to park outside their places, so it's a win win situation!

I would like to start (or join if there's something going on already but i'm sure there's not) a local Z4 meet so i think next time i catch a Z4 owner around i'll go and introduce myself.

hook me up with a sticker.

i dont want anything huge or obtrusive. nothing to flashy.

just a nice looking "emblem" that i can add to the car and have other drives know what it's all about.

but.. someone can always go somewhere and have one made on their own.

I bought my Z after I sold my bike. I'm a biker really and when my missus decided she didn't want to come out on the bike any more I sold it and looked for a 4 wheel replacement toy. I wanted wind in the hair and decent performance. I'm defo not a poser,I'm too fat and ugly for that....... I keep it clean ( as I do with my company car) but enjoy the performance. I've done one track day and shall do more.I got it 'cos I loved the looks and the performance and I loved my BMW bikes, so a natural progression.

I only suggested we have stickers like other forums, but it seems a lot of people want one...

Who's going to be sorting it them out then?

It could just be as simple as the banner at the top of the page made into a sticker. I'd put that up on my window, whenever the top was up of course :) Or were people thinking more along the lines of bumper sticker..... though I'm personally not such a fan of that.

We'd probably have to do some kind of minimum order though I'm guessing..... Anyone got any friends in the print business??

I was thinking something along the lines of a sticker simply saying http://www.z4-forum.com with a nice font. The background of the sticker would be translucent and you'd stick in on the inside of one of the windows. Also it shouldnt be too big. Anyway that's just me.

I was thinking something like this like i already have on my car. Obviously saying Z4-forum.com

Exactly like that only the Roadster people might have a bit of a hard time finding a spot to stick it though.. :D

I solved that problem by getting my own license plate frame saying, z4-forum.com

Check it out
