OTA coming soon in Europe

Android Auto in the new version, I have been waiting for that for months. My car is downloading the update now.

Just started the update on my phone for my 1-series.
Is it easy to update the car from that then?

It easy easy just takes forever to send the update to your car. Then when it’s finished doing that you need to have 20mins spare where you can leave the car with the key in and not need to use it as it won’t start while it’s updating and you can’t lock it.

Ok, thanks, having to do several short trips today and so far it's up to 31%.
 
I managed to install the update today which took approx 40 mins to download whilst utilising the mobile and BMW connected app, then a further 20 mins to allow it to install. The only Downside is that I had to recode the Auto Start/Stop button to off, as the update had reset it to the default on. Other than that, still exploring the new features this update offers :D .
 
The big fix in the latest update is that music carries on from where it left off when playing from a USB stick. Whoo oooh!
 
Just done mine!! All good!! She now says ‘hey!’ Lol!! Fun opening and closing windows and switching on steering wheel and seat heat via voice command!! Pretty cool!! 👍👍
 
I downloaded the update to my phone.....connected the phone to the car the update started at 38% according to the car which seemed rather strange to me.....anyway I left my phone in the car and let the update carry on for a while.....half an hour later it had updates 3% points to 41%......I then decided not to bother with the update.
Is this "speed" of update from phone to car normal?
 
Did a check today and it said mine was available. It said it was preparing the update but didn’t begin downloading or installing it on the twenty minute drive home this evening...

Seems there’s a fair bit in the download as it states in the release notes and various forums online. Will have a try this weekend. See if it finally updates.

It is much quicker to download the update on a phone and then connect the phone to the car to transfer. It takes about 30 minutes to transfer and then a further 20 minutes or so for installation.

Steps:
- downloaded update to phone
- connected phone via WIFI to BMW exposed wifi network
- software was send from phone to car (but had to let motor running as else it switched off after a few minutes) (took like 30-40 minutes)
- then i could switch off the engine and the update got installed (another 15-20 minutes)
- then few hours to figure out how that 'android auto' worked from my Motorola smartphone (in the end it worked, even wireless)
 
Thanks guys. I’ve since downloaded it to my phone and it says it’s ready to go. Will do it the way you’ve suggested.
 
Thanks for the input guys, I didn't realise that the engine had to be running to transfer the files from the phone to the car....timings were around the same as Bart9140 said.
Clever stuff isn't it!!
 
I find it interesting that everyone seems to be getting version 07/2020.56 from the OTA update. My car was in getting the KAFAS camera replaced and my software was updated to 07/2020.60. I am curious as to what the slight revision is for?
 
....just a quickie, once you've downloaded the update files from your phone to the car there is about a 10 minute wait before your car informs you that the update is ready to start....I was sat there thinking I'd done something wrong!!
 
Any tips for getting my phone connected to the wifi? It keeps connecting and disconnecting so won't transfer the download. Oneplus6 Phone. Download in the car is at 14% and I'm not driving much at the moment so don't want to sit with it idling for hours just to download the rest.

im on version 07/2020.30 when checking for updates i get nothing, other people in my country are getting higher version numbers, so I think it doesnt push minor updates, there's probably some version log you can scroll through inside the car somewhere.

update, nevermind, just got it while doing my satnav update
