OTA coming soon in Europe

So this story in Auto Express just popped up in my news feed and it looks the the OTA update will start getting pushed through from 19th October. Too late for me as my M40i has gone in to have the lane keeping assist looked at as it showed a fault yesterday. Worth keeping an eye out for updates over the next few weeks.

Any idea what the version number wil be?

have been been in contact for months with bmw connected to fix some bugs in the dutch version of the navigation, hopefully it's finally resolved :)

Oh however did we survive before all the gadgets.

Radio Rentals was just so ahead of it's time.

what version of the software do you guys have?
I think i'm already on the new system i have 2020 07.3 or something

update
new version will be 2020 07.15
and (in belgium) it will be rolled out at the beginning of november, and its not possible to ask the dealer to install it manually before the live update.

In case anyone wanted to know :)

Am sure the idea is to provide them free for first 3 years, then u must pay a monthly subscription to continue access for all the sexy things like Geo fencing, remote open/close, send address to Nav, valet mode, locate car, App car stats, driver profiles etc...

Well that’s what Mercedes already do, given is seen as a nice little earner.

Its like that for bmw also, updates to the idrive system are always free i think, but the side services are with a contract from 1 to 3 years depending on the service

That’s if the OTA is now working properly. My dealer let slip that I’d hadn’t worked properly on the Z4 since it had launched and the system wasn’t actually providing any updates currently. Let’s hope that’s been sorted.

In time that will be a genuine issue. I'm all for a connected car but the embedded SIM is not a concept I like. I came from an Audi and it had connected services but I had to use a separate SIM so I could completely disable the connection if I wanted.

Idrive informed me that a new software version was available a few months ago. I went through the download and install procedure and all seemed to go well.

However this thread has prompted me to check the version number, Idrive tells me that it is V11/2019.70, this doesn't seem right compared to versions quoted above.

It may well do an update but I believe they work in sequence and in some cases wont always update do the most current version. I had a battle with BMW to get mine updated to the most recent version. Don’t know why...

BMW are going to start fitting things like heated seats to all cars, then you subscribe to use them. Has some advantages when buying used, but like most subscription services will cost more in the long run.

But with any subscription comes the hacking, not sure on the legal aspect as it is your own car you are hacking to permanently enable features.

Its already like that with adaptive headlights, and possibly some other options, but it is a one time purchase.
This is probably also the reason why starting prices have gone up a lot for all models. :)

Last time i did an update via the bmw connected app, few days later all electronics went bonkers (no radio, nav, reverse camera,...). Had to pass via the garage which did the update via some other means (cable i assume), then luckily all worked again as intended.

All up to date. The bmw assistant seems better. Not sure if I could before but it will find songs on Spotify for me. Nav seems better too.

Just started the update on my phone for my 1-series.
Is it easy to update the car from that then?
