Options/upgrades that make a difference ?

Which upgrades on the z4mc are worth doing not counting supercharging which I'm sure will .

No mods to the engine are worth it in terms of bangs for your buck
But lots to do to suspension
Ask exodus...
Or try the search function

For me, the best/first mods to do are those which help you to preserve speeds around corners and improve handling so that you can use all the power that the car has.

You can improve handling by changing the geometry settings to less toe-in (F&R) and increasing front -ve camber and reducing rear -ve camber.
If you can afford it, adjustable suspension will transform the ride and handling of the car when it is properly set up.
Rear Trailing Arm Bush limiter kit will prevent movement of the bushes which will help to keep rear geometry accurate in dynamic situations.
Front and rear wheel spacers will increase the track width and reduce lateral bodyroll
Front strutbrace (OEM or Strongstrut) will give more positive steering by preserving front geometry in dynamic situations.
H&R E46M3 F&R ARBs will further reduce lateral bodyroll

how about some downgrades that would make a difference ?
crossply tyres
drum brakes
non synchro gearbox, ... wait a minute,we already have one of those !!!

Wow Exdos! Must remember you when I want to change a few things on my car  BTW as the offset on the front 224m wheels I've fitted to my non m are pushing the wheels slightly in by a few mil is it worth adding spacers to bring them back out to where they were with the 108's or slightly more!
Sorry ignore all this as I think it's called thread hijacking... Sorry everyone :(

I would push the wheels out as far as you safely can with hub-centric spacers without fouling on the arch liners or protruding beyond the wheel arches. You need to use longer wheel bolts in the process.

Meaningful upgrades also include better tires, brake fluid and brake pads. But of course you should have a reason to do each of them. In my opinion it really is best to learn the car while stock as much as possible and then proceed to any upgrades. You'll be able to make much more informed decisions then.

Also good upgrades are great big fart cans in the back but for a whole different set of reasons.

i like styling mods to the ///M cars, very fast out the box so, suspension work and styling mods...

strap a blower to it to really set the thing on fire :fuelfire: :fuelfire: :fuelfire: :fuelfire: :fuelfire: :fuelfire:

+1
other than that I'd just leave it as it is, it's not turbocharged so mapping makes no difference until you start emptying your wallet into it...

Have booked the mc in to Guglielmi's for anti roll bars, aftermarket air box, new vanos filter and engine compartment crossover bar , wonder what else to do ? Next week 20th Nov !

Great information exdos:

Have you done this on a standard set of M wheels, what would the spacer size be? Or how would I work it out?

Happy to help.

Yes, I did this with OEM 224 wheels and 10mm spacers. You work it out by simply placing a tape measure onto the outside of the tyre and measure ho far to the edge of the bodywork.

I use 15mm spacers on the track with standard wheels, as well as max negative camber by pulling the pins

In all honesty, as a pure road car. None what so ever. Just get used to it and its character and improve the driver. Sometimes it just takes time to get good with a particular car.

More noise is always good though.

Hi,
I haven't modified the suspension like others on here , but that's where I would start given the chance.
There's some interesting info backed up by proper measurement here, its in a few parts, which cover engine tuning, suspension, exhaust

Toplad,

That link is a superb find! I shall enjoy reading some factual stuff about modding.
