Optional extra you wish you had...

Xenons for me. Biggest downfall of the car is these terrible lights

And mirrors that fold when you lock the car, or dip down in reverse. And extended leather, just for the luxury feeling. Possibly an S54 too

Can't believe the popularity of the heated steering wheel. I've been driving for 27 years and I can honestly say i've never thought "Oohhh I wish I had a heated steering wheel"

Mine is pretty well specified but I wish it had extended Champagne leather.

On the other side of this they need a refrigerated version for the summer when you've been parked up in the sun and the steering wheel is so hot you can barely touch it. Seems to have got worst since bmw brought in reflective leather seats, seats don't get too hot but the rest of the car is like a Furness!

Folding mirrors are the only extra i miss from previous cars for both public parking & in the garage
id happily swap my DSP for them as i'm not overly impressed :? i certainly wouldnt hang back for a car that had it
No idea what a cost extra it is but its not as good as the standard Audi Concert set up in MK1 TTs or the standard set up in our aged X3

This is from an E85 POV! (a bit daft to open exactly the same topic in a e85 section or in a m section)

I think I have about all the options that could be factory fitted except for the folding mirrors.
Not that I see any use in those, the car gets hardly any smaller and if I could choose, I'd rather they'd ding my mirrors than my door...

So... lets post options you have and could just as wel live without:

- auto blending outside mirrors: a gimmick, very expensive to replace (over 250/glass) and less sharp than a normal mirror
- heated seats: horrible feeling, as some other bloke just has warmed the seat for you before you sit in it.....
- TV tuner. Get this: analog tv that went off the air 2 years after production or so in my country......
- pdc: you're virtually sitting on the rear axle. Front pdc would have been a far more sensible choice.....
- bluetooth: doesnt work well with most modern telephones (android), so bad implication. Best solution is to get an ancient nokia (pre symbian), they all seem to work
- rainsensor.. Works fairly well, but not that important
- multifunction steering wheel - works, but everything on the radio is nearby anyway. Sometimes I grab the radioknobs subcontiously.
- climate control. I have a roadster, and a lot of times I forget to turn it off when the roof goes down....
- electric seats. - I am the only driver so it's not a must for me.

I don't know if I'd paid the extra for those options if I had bought the car new.

Things that I do like:
-Hifi professional DSP. Best soundsystem from factory available. Not perfect, but better than the two other systems. Expensive though..
- Navigation professional Still works good, menustructure is also very good.
- M sportseats- a must imho, and strangely not that expensive from factory if I look in my pricelist...
- extended leather/new england leather. Especially the full leather doorcarts. They are a 'touch area', and the plastic strips on the normal carts feel very cheap. The new england leather is also nicer to the touch than the oregon leather. I don't know if I would have paid the extra back in the days (very expensive option)
- cruise control- I use it.
- wind deflector. It works and the implementation is nice. You can store it in the bootlid.
- electric roof. especially with the aftermarket module: key controlled and useable up to 55kph.
- cupholders! they are flimsy in the e85, but do not take up any space (fold in) and can handle cups and cans

Extended storage. I was told it wasn't nearly as useful as it is on the 1 series, but I really do miss the drivers side glove box (the dashboard bin just doesn't cut it)

Another vote for cruise, I have folding mirrors and use them all the time.
I had cruise and folding mirrors on my Zed but they didn't fold on the key but they fold on the key on the 330i/640d and agree I use them all the time and they are also handy when putting the car in the garage.

what is extended storage?
Extended storage includes two cup holders under the centre console, a folding compartment on the driver’s side, a storage compartment in the separating wall in front of the luggage compartment, nets in both the passenger footwell and on the rear of the seat backrests, a coat hook on each rollover bar and fastening straps in the luggage compartment.

Problem with the cup holders is the arm rest has to be up to use them. Not that I used the cup holders in my 1er. I did however use the drivers side glove box al the time & thinking about it now the nets in the foot well would be useful as well.

I have cruise on my ///M but never seem to use it much, even on long journeys. Don't know why.

Possibly because even when your on a long drive it's still on and off as you start to catch upto the car in front or someone pulls out. That's where the new tech out there that Volvo have is good, it keeps a nice distance speedy up and braking if the fud infront decides they've had enough of sitting at 67mpg and now fancies 74mph

The cruise on our 330d does that as well, just got the standard one on the zed but I don't use either! The option I wish we had is the memory/programmable seats - we have had 3 BMW's from new now and each time hummed and hahhed over it (£1200 so not a cheap option) each time said no then wished we had got it (hubby is 6ft and long legs whereas I'm only 5'4 so always changing the seat :( ) Miss it even more in the zed though as hubby can't even get in if I forget to move the seat back when I get out!!

Love my z but would have liked a CD multichanger, or better still an ipod compatible unit - any out there at a reasonable price?

Am new to the site but have a question please. Am fitting a proper E85 mesh wind deflector - can roof be used with deflector attached?
