Opinions on this please?

Hi All,

I use to own a Z4 3.0 Si sport convertible, and having a brief spell out of them i have been thinking about getting back in one, this time a coupe.

Could you please give me some opinions on this please?

http://www.flemings-cars.co.uk/car/bmw/z4/3-0si-sport-coupe

it's only a few miles from me.

I was fortunate before to buy from a BMW dealership, so had few worries on car problems due to the warranty. But if someone could be so kind as to advise me on things to look for that would be great. Also i had a manual before, how are the auto's?

Many Thanks
Rich

Best colour lol

If you particularly want an auto then go for it but be aware they are more
Difficult to sell on - most folks prefer a manual in this kind of car

Full history is a must as this one has - fairly bullet proof but some typical issues that you will see in the buyers guide such as rear springs.

Price is OK but at £10k you should have plenty of choice so don't jump
At the first

I have a BMW warranty on mine that I sorted after I bought it but I think you must have a full BMW dealership SH for this - others will confirm - this said coming up to two years of ownership and haven't had to use it (in nearly 20k miles)

Yeah that was my thought on the auto vs manual.

I had a SLK 300 which was an auto and it was a superb drive, just wasn't sure what the Z4 as an auto was like

I wouldn't say the autos are any more difficult to sell than manuals with the Coupes :? maybe less people actively seeking them but then there are usually less of them available . No nav can be more of a decider for many buyers :o
Buy the car that ticks most of your boxes & the one highlighted looks a decent car , nice colour combo , decent history .
Could well be ex forum with the stubby ?

The auto box is ace. Chap that bought my last car was 26 and had last had an S2000 - he and his wife are both 'drivers' and loved it. It's silky smooth and when you floor it the acceleration feels like a train, relentless. I do mis it a little because with the paddles and ability to knock the shifter to change you could relax and do full auto or - almost - drive it like a manual. Mine took longer to sell than it would have if it was a manual, but they are much rarer and there's always someone looking for one. Personally I wouldn't buy a car with one eye on selling it on - takes the heart out of it IMO, and these are 'heart cars' as you know...

haha it was a 3.0 si..

this was mine.

Okay.. My only search criteria were Xenon headlights, having had cars with them, i'm not sure i can live without them.

Sat Nav i can take or leave, with it being readily available on phones now.

I do however like memory seats and having them heated.

I haven't owned a car with milage this high before, nor a car this old, so just wanted to know what i should keep my eyes pealed for. I will ask if bushes/springs ball joints have been changed, or if they are still original, as these are consumables that i would imagine start to wear that this sort of age?

Thanks for the help so far

Auto box with the flappy paddles is rapid shifting so wouldn't worry about it unless you specifically want a manual
Mileage at 65k again wouldn't be too worried , any suspension parts requiring refresh are relatively cheap & easy to swap & the engine is only just broken in
Give it a test drive & listen for knocks from the broken rear springs & give the steering / suspension a good workout

I have e-mailed to talk about a viewing.
I will also check discs and pads. I'm hoping as it has only just been serviced, that if they needed replacing they would have already been done.

Oh something you guys may be able to help with. The Xenons' are they single Xenon (Just low beam) or Bi Xenon Low and high beam. These don't have the 'angel eyes' either do they?

They're the naff Xenon's that look ok from the pavement but a decent maglight on each wing would outperform them

Price seems fair to me, and the red interior with sport seats is a big  IMO.
Auto transmission: I was a bit reluctant, but after 1 year, I can tell you I could never swap for manual again. It is performing great in all driving style.
Also, I would ask how many owners had the car as well, and even though the maintenance record seems good, ask to double check it to see if mileage etc matches.

Ultimately.. if I were you, I would try and look for a forum's car, which is somehow the best guarantee that the car was treated with care & love...! :D

Previous BMW servicing isn't a requirement when taking out the BMW warranty. They may dictate that a certain service need to be carried out before they will take it on though. Again this doesn't have to be by BMW now.

Okay so the xenon's being a little pants is a bit of a disappointment but i assume they are still better than the halogen lights i would have had in my old Z4.

I am hoping to go and see the car in the next few days. I am hoping that the last service was an inspection 2, giving me a reasonable next service also
