One of life's great pleasures

Hate this...

Don't really get it too much in central London, but on motorways etc I really notice it. Idiots.

Once, on the A3 (3 lanes) had a black Freelander, emblazoned with 'Born Free' charity decals (an official car!), overtaking me, undertaking me, braking hard, accelerating etc. No idea what the idiot thought he was doing, but was clearly trying to get a response. In the end I just moved into the left hand lane slowed down to 50 until he was bored, then came back out to the Zed-lane and left the idiot in my rear view mirror. Kids I can understand wanting 'to play', but adults should just grow up before they cause an accident.

Also, re 'verts, this:

It is interesting the different reactions cars can cause. My last car was a Clio v6, and got nothing but stares and 'knowing nods' from everyone.

That was a really unique-looking car. Bought my Clio (1.2, ahem) at the same time that they were releasing the original Clio 172 and V6.

Remember thinking how increadible the V6 looked. Only ever saw one on the road.

Yeah I was lucky enough to have a 182 then moved onto a v6, the v6 was a particularly rare and unique looking car. Apart from the meets I only seen 1 other v6 driving about.

haha this post reminds me of when i had mine. i never got any abuse when driving it or i would of gone ape s**t on whoever tried it on

but the local teens used to draw a knob on the bonnet when it got dirty...... never caught them but if i did, they wouldnt be able to draw much for a long time with their broken fingers and legs!

I have had a few negative comments shouted at me...

At the lakes meet last year some wiseguy shouted "should have got an audi". Whatever.

My favourite though happened one sunday...I had spent the morning giving the car a thorough clean and AG polish - was looking good as new. Went to get some petrol afterwards (roof down of course) and ended up stopped at lights on a roundabout. Some muppet passenger in a Vectra though it would be a good idea to shout "s**t car" out the window....

I went to give him the finger, but in the heat of the moment all I could muster was a thumbs up!! In hindsight that probably wound him up more than the finger would have...

i can't wait to have the top down... bought mine just as the weather was dropping here. Only had it down a couple times before the snow but i was in traffic.

Also, i always get people trying to race me at lights... i usually dont bother though, not worth a ticket

spr - congrats on the purchase, you'll love it with the roof down and be addicted before you know it! As my gif above says - 'unless the storm's gotta name, the roof stays down'. ;)

And likewise, I hate that feeling at the lights when you see the car next to you slowly edging forwards and the driver trying to catch you attention. If it's clear, I'll often just 'let them go', wait until they are over the idea of racing, then buzz past with a flick of the hazard lights.

And I guess the UK experience of receiving lots of negative comments is mostly limited to the UK. I've had nothing but positive comments and drooling stares. I keep the top down whenever possible.
I've been driving a Zed since 2003 and I can't recall ever getting any negative comments and nothing was ever thrown at me. I do get some strange looks this time of year anytime I drive top down with temps below 10 C / 50 F.

I've not really had any comments in the UK, well other than someone keying the entire nearside. Although just a few weeks ago I had my first comment, someone complimenting my car and asking how much :)

When I drove around Europe the response was very positive, plenty of looks and comments from people. Tbh I think it's a UK thing, we have a really strange culture. Like a Golf is considered to be some sort of Lamborghini 'Great car mate', while a real Lamborghini would probably be met with open hostility.

Haven't really had any run-ins with boyracers. I did have one behind and he gave a respectful breaking distance - his friend didn't do the same to him though. I couldn't even see his friend, he was tailgating so closely. Saw them both turn off in the rearview and presumably resumed their race.

I reckon my grey hair gives little challenge to knobs.
Never had anything peculiar said or shouted.
Owning the z has been completely positive

Audi drivers, usually in their 30's/ 40's and wearing a suit and tie. LEAVE ME ALONE !! I DONT WANT A RACE.
Rant over.

You should have agreed and told him his mate should have bought a Z :x

I used to have more trouble in my edition 30 golf than I do in the Alpina. Generally I try not to bite, let them pass and then they can trawl for plod...

Tapatalking...

Ive only had positive comments about my car and nobody has ever really tried to race me.

Ive had a few bad reaction to minor things like when having to roll forward slowly out of a blind junction and then stopping as soon as I seen a car coming - the guy looked at me like I`d just fkd his mother, I personally dont think people would have reacted the same had I been driving a little sh1t box car.

The funniest thing thats happened was when I seen a range rover in my right hand side mirror come steaming down the turn right lane expecting to find a eurobox in the straight ahead lane that he could easily beat off the lights, unfortunately for him lil old me was sitting first in the queue with 265hp under the bonnet. I was tempted to make quick progress to stop his little plan but common sense prevailed and I just decided I would just pull away gently, he didnt know this however and was revving his engine and driving forward through the red light just to make sure he still beat me. Pathetic really.

Just love it when they get behind you right up to the bumper and a sharp bend comeing up, dont touch the brakes just down a cog and boot round the bend, while they are waiting for your brake lights to come on. the look on there face is just great in fact I slow down and bate most of um!!. Zed in corners wow.

Agree - I am always reassured when I let a tail-gater past and they zip off at high speed - means they'll flush out the speed traps and traffic cars

Not had any issues myself with abuse or thrown items, only positive comments from friends / others and in fact people seem to be happy to let me past on motorways or dual carriageways without my doing anything to force it... Perhaps the black grills project a presence
