One of life's great pleasures

Driving home from the gym with the roof down. Hot from the gym and it's perfect for cooling down - great! Apart from some bloke in a discovery at the traffic lights expressing some penis envy. I drop the top whenever possible, wonder how many 2.5ton 4 wheel drive vehicles have ever seen as much as a grass verge..

He was in the right hand lane turning right and i was going straight on, he lowered his window and shouted something across his car that I didn't fully catch as the light had just changed and I was in the mood for a bit of the loud pedal. But from what I caught it wasn't along the lines of "nice car mate"...

 roof always down :)
Yup, I can't drop it on the commute (to long on mway), but every other occasion it's down. Anyone else ever had someone give 'unwanted advice' about the top down?

Had a ned try to spit into my car whilst passing under a pedestrian crossing on a dual carriageway.... He shouted abuse when he missed

Does everyone not get this? Maybe its because I'm younger with a Zd.

Everyone tries to burn me off in my Mc. Some nob in a p reg 306D tried to do me the other day, pulled out in front of me on a dual carriage way, while I was at overtaking speed I had to slam on the brakes and he started gesturing at me through his rear view mirror. Then wound down his window and started flailing his arm out the window as to overtake him... on a two lane dual carriageway... so I sat behind him and he started slowing down to 60 then 50 so I thought F**K this and undertook him.. :x

Also yesterday was on a round about turning left, was a 3 lane roundabout and I was in the middle there was a Mitsubisi warrior behind and went from the 1st to the 3rd lane pulled up next to me started revving his derv... then pointed forward. He nailed it off the line, I gingerly set off then hit second pressed the loud pedal and he was a dot in the rear view.

It seems common place with this type of car. Maybe its just me I don't know.

Did he just try to beat you off from the lights?

Bit of an odd place to beat someone off! :P

Only had one arse in his dad's (I'm guessing) X5 who threw something in my car when pulling away from the lights. No idea what it was as I think it bounced right out again.

I've yet to catch any verbal abuse. I get lots of stares, but I can't always tell if it's envy or disdain, or both. There's always a few that think they're racing me while I'm on a casual drive. They either tailgate to prove they can keep up, or race ahead and try to gap me, all the while their engine's wheezing, tyres squealing, and their head racking back and forth. All the while I'm just enjoying the sun and scenery. Whatever, at least they're not driving slow, blocking my progress. And I'll eventually let the tailgaters overtake. Police bait, I figure.

Some people just don't get it, do they.
The Zed is not only about "fast." It's the whole experience: the open-top driving (sorry coupe owners), the handling on winding roads, the look, the personality ... and of course there's "fast" when the need arises.

Anyone who wants to race me from a stop light wouldn't really appreciate the car anyway, so I just don't bother (but still usually end up seeing 'em in the rear-view :D ).

Thanks for that Jimmypop! You know what I meant!

I get the people trying to race me too, I figure they just want to see you floor it. I normally either ignore them or tease them!

The only comments I've ever had are positive though, the last time someone threw something at my car, it resulted in a 40mph handbrake turn followed by a mile long foot chase - he won't do that again!

My Red MkIV Spitfire fell to bits over the 5 years I had it and I was far too worried about it breaking down to care about anyone taking the mickey.

My mercury grey XR3i Cabriolet used to get nothing but compliments from young lads, even though it was patently sh1te - I loved that 105bhp! (for 9 years).

My 2.8 Hell Rot Z3 with the nice fat early M style rear end used to get nothing but grief despite the fact I loved it and its 197bhp tramlining madness. I had people throwing thing out of their windows at me, especially when it was new (I had it for 10years).

After 6 months with my Z4M (which I am utterly obsessed with), I've had no abuse....but no compliments either, (unless people have had a ride), in which case they understand my obsession.

As for abuse because you drive a convertible........Get over it, or buy a Mondeo. Life's too short to care what anyone else thinks. Oh and if it's not snowing GET THE ROOF DOWN!!

Everyone should have at least one convertible in their lives at some time- preferably all the time.

This little rule has served me well. it really is one of life's great pleasures :D

+1. And I guess the UK experience of receiving lots of negative comments is mostly limited to the UK. I've had nothing but positive comments and drooling stares. I keep the top down whenever possible.

Too many envious people in the Uk who would rather shout abuse than work hard and buy one themselves :(

i keep reading this post with horrific fascination, because if someone throws something at me while i'm driving we're going to have problems...
