just perusing the net & noticed on a 56 3.0Si the engine cover is silver . mine is black ?

As you might have thought it has been discussed before, don't think anyone could ever find any logic to it.
 
I think the black ones were known to have issues. Yup, the silver ones were definitely more reliable and I think they were more powerful and sounded better :poke:
 
Yep discussed before.

My 08 (57) N52 has a black cover, but when looking for a car i had seen another late 07 (57) N52 with silver.

imo not that it really matters as its still ugly plastic.. but the black looks nicer!

well of course it does :) was just curious as to the relevance of different colours
maybe the geeks are still working & will be along shortly :P

That's right. However, what most people don't know is that the silver ones were specially developed by the M division. The molecules in the plastic used in these silver covers were slightly further apart, meaning that these items were lighter than the 'standard' black ones. Cars equipped with the silver covers therefore have a lower centre of gravity, with the roadholding benefits that this brings. True story.

No dipstick, so no point for that, and water is whenever the washer doesnt work i guess it needs water :lol:

I think i have only opened mine once a year too.
