On the look out again!

Not considered a used D3 Alpina?

As for the 123d, I can't say I've driven one, but I've been astonished by how quick they are on a PH hoon when I had my STI Impreza. The biggest shock was how high his mpg was when we stopped for breakfast. I could only dream of such frugality...! Nice looking things IMO too.
I'm in 'proper sensible' mode now.

Have decided to go for the economy etc, cheaper costs and that. 40-60mpg, efficient dynamics, and tax of £90 from next April!

Can't fault that

Does make a lot of financial sense, though those D3's give around 48mpg combined apparently.

I'm rather taken with them myself and could see one replacing my E39 sometime in the future but they seem to have very strong residuals.

How much is the 09 plate you're looking at Sen?
Its up for £23,850, but I've got it for £21,450, 12 months tax, and a full tank of diesel. Although the miles are pretty high for a 15 week old car (just under 6k), but suppose thats reflected in the price.

Was going to post the link but its off already.

Some 1 series lease deals here I would hold out for a 123d though :)

Sandal have one in white
I do really like the 123d (in fact, I actually now remember a thread about changing to it last year), but they seem to be quite a bit more, and even the price I'm getting the 120 for is more than I wanted to pay. I've been running an X3 2.0d for a week and the performance is great, so am sure I'll be OK. I can get a newer 120 for the price of an 08 123.

The weird thing is, it doesn't feel like I'm transitioning from the Z4M to it, as I had the X for a week, it doesn't feel as bad!

You can probably remap a 120 nicely for another 30bhp. Rear wheel drive chassis can handle it for sure with maybe some better brake pads. Sounds like a decent deal and nice colour scheme. Post some pics when you get it....... :driving:

Couldn't be tempted by an 09 plate pre-reg Z4C? You can pick them up for a couple of K more...... :driving: (Although the 1-series sounds good, of course!)

Will do mate, cheers. Quite pleased with it all, and to be fair, its happened bloody quickly (to the anger of my mrs!) :D

No, not fussed mate. To be fair, this is more about practicality and saving money, and being a bit more sensible.

In all honesty, I'd only ever want the M again (and perhaps one day will get another one). Cheers for the tip anyway

Ah, can't argue with practicality! Is the 120d you're getting 170bhp? If so, my friend has one, and it's actually very quick!

Yeah, the 120d M sport, 177bhp I think.

My mate has the older 120d hatchback, and thats quite nice too performance wise.

Nice! It isn't going to be a slouch then! I presume you wouldn't be tempted by a 'lesser' brand?

I don't know why, but I've really settled on beemers now. This will be my 4th in a row.

Only other things I like are Audi's which have grown back on me after a few years of being ugly!

I think I can see your viewpoint. When you're used to the premium brand, why go back?

Think I could be tempted back to the cheaper brands though some time soon! Quite fancy a cheap hatchback to knock around in! (And not worry about too much!)... Hmmm....

Just looked into this and a company called Bluefin do a chip which increases bhp by 44 (to 221) and torque by an extra 103 (to 453!) for £435.

Looks good.

Anyone used bluefin before?

I really like the BMW diesel engines but I'd have to have one with an auto/SMG/DSG box as I can't stand the tiny rev range :P

I went from a 120i (which i thought was awful) to a focus ST and thought the focus was of much better build quality. The 1-series always felt like it was at the bottom of the bmw food chain which i suppose it is really, from visiting the 1-series forum the pick of the current crop seems to be the 123 if you can stretch to one of them.
