On the hunt for a Z4MR

Hi Spearman - this car was on my list when I was looking for four odd months, believe I first saw it come up in September/October. I called them to ask the usual questions and just got an arsey welshy who kept saying I wouldn't find a better car and wouldn't really answer my questions over the phone even when I explained it would be close to 400 mile round trip. I had at this point seen several dogs and wasted a good few weekends so my tollerance wasnt very high! I did ask whether he was open to offers as well which he wasn't. Funny seeing it still for sale after I bought the car I own now in November. As I am in Rayleigh the distance is very similar to you. For your guide mine is an interlargos with champagne (extended) and every other option except electric mirrors with 14,000miles two owners and bought for two thousand pounds less.

After not seeing another ZMR since I purchased mine although there is an imola red coupe in the Rayleigh area it will be funny seeing another interlargos/champagne one if you buy it! It's a stunning colour combination much better than boring plastic black.

Good luck

This all seems very negative now :(

I'd say the blue one doesn't seem "terrible" value for money, I paid £250 less for mine this month, differences in mine; 4000 less miles, no cruise (it's a sports car...), sensors (can you park? it's the front ones you'd want!) and dsp (the engine is good enough), arguably the colours might not be as "saleable", but that's down to opinion - I'm biased.

The only big difference is mine came from a main dealer which means it comes with the warranty perk worth £*insert value here* and some pre arranged prep work. I hope this helps.

Alternatively I just saw this one;

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4m-roadster/bmw-z-series-z4-m-roadster-2006/1071373

might be worth a punt if you like the interior, and there's no middleman involved :)

With these prices it almost looks like the M is going up in value this year 8)

It's odd how some cars seem to hang around dealers for a very long time, the two in the original post would have interested me but for their high prices. It's a shame the black one is rough.
I also like the one JuniorJet just linked to, but it's price could be better for a private sale and it seems it went more than 2.5 years between services and is due it's next one in 2 months :(

Sometimes non-franchise dealers don't put a time scale on their stock (like hexagon). If they didn't budge for Simon_P I'd be surprised if they budge now, very few dealers will let someone walk out unless they really can't do the deal. It's up to you if you want it - I suppose it depends on how badly...

I agree with herminator about the price of the black one, it is a bit steep. I didn't notice the servicing bits, so I would either hit the blue one or keep waiting.

You would have thought they'd of sold it during the summer being a roadster. Its a little concerning they've had it so long. Good to know, always handy having this info to undertsand the dealers situation.

Also done some digging on their financial status. The company is non-limited and it/it's directors went bankrupt at somepoint.

Attention to detail on this forum is crazy! :D

You're only round the corner. Living in Hockley now. Surprised I haven't seen you! Will keep my eye's peeled!

When I spoke to the chap he was very precise, and relatively easy going. Maybe he got lucky the night before

You got a good deal on yours! I'm not overly concerned about the price, but I do expect everything to be in perfect order. I intend to call them again this week, and I'll try to build a rapport with him, hopefully get him on-side for a deal.

I don't think it makes any sense to have their cash tied up in stock that will devalue overtime. The larger companies know this, and therefore have timescales, by the stereotypical small dealer might not be as business minded.

If its not for me I'll walk and wait for a stunner :D

Googling the reg brings up a sytner page:

http://www.sytner.co.uk/bmw/sheffield/forms/request-a-test-drive.aspx?frn=%7BF48715AA-BE36-4557-9741-896FE50BA82D%7D&loc=%7BE8E1DA79-2AF7-4297-97D0-59CA2BEB836E%7D&voi=BMW%20-%20Z4M%20ROADSTER%20(3.2%202dr)%20-%20GU58JZF%20%20%20&KeepThis=true&TB_iframe=true&height=500&width=620

I wonder if Motorhouse (the dealer who has it now), bought it from sytner.

Yup agree there, can't understand why they would want their cash tied up for close to nine months, dead money. I wonder what they have been doing with the car - has it just sat on a trickle charge or just boosted when someone wants to see hear/drive it. That's not going to do a lot of good to the wet seals.

Cheers,

Simon.

Hahaha maybe he did! Ours is often about its an every day car, couldn't not use it, it's such a brilliant car. Although its in the garage today with the snow we have had over-night

Does anyone recommend a car checker website? Just got this done and, well, I was hoping for some mileage stats e.g. Mot mileage figures etc

I've also checked out the dvla website to see what i could find:

I'm going to get the vin in the morning which should give more info...hopefully.

Any dealers on here who might have access to "premium" tools?

Sean

On the dvla check (pic2) it says the date of liability is 01/04/2012. Is saying it hasn't been taxed for nearly a year?

Is that the blue one in Wales? Probably right going by the poster above pointing out the nav screen picture.

Yep, that's the one. Can't understand why they've had it so long?

For me it was two reasons, well three: 1) price 2) distance - this wasn't that big a problem but I had been lied to several times when going looking at cars that in the end travelling 300 miles to see a substandard car was starting to become tiresome. 3) wouldn't entertain a deal, I had cash and no part ex, still wasn't interested!
Can you get the previous owners details from that check and call them to ask if there is anything they didn't tell the dealer?

I've got some friends and family in Wales, so going to pop in. Not a total waste of a drive if the deal does turn sour.

I need to have a proper financial chat with him, and I'll see how I feel after.

That car check cost £9.95, and its absolute rubbish, no details whatsoever - other than the details I can get for free from the dvla.not sure what I've actually paid for! No previous owner info :(

I wouldn't admit about the family in Wales on an open forum :o :P

I used the HPI one which gave the usual no accidents, finance, owners etc and on top the full spec including all options. See if you can get their details from the V5? For your guide I offered £17k in October on the second call so he knew I was serious with a £500 holding deposit sub viewing. Flat turned down, four months on you may have some luck.

Haha, it's ok the family aren't welsh :)

What is it with car dealers. They must know people will haggle and set the list price based on that!

We're you in hockey this evening? Spotted a z4 a few cars in front heading to Rayleigh.

I did think the flat dismissal was a little strange especially when I offered a holding deposit. At that time I thought they’d had the car for a month or so, I hadn’t noticed the nav screen date. Nope not me, the car wasn’t out last night. Good luck with this one.
