Can someone please explain how the 'ignore' thing works. Does it 'block' the 'ignoree' (?) from the 'ignorer', so they can't see any of the former's posts?
Unless I am on everyone's ignore list, of course, then I presume I'm talking to myself! :D Won't be the first time.

Plenty of bad advice on in this thread and a few haters it seems. Let us know how you get on, hopefully it’s something small like an oil leak and not something major.

Except the genuine extract from the manual I sent. :wink:
I think using that regularly instead of waiting for the light to come on is the OPs best option.
Along with carrying a litre in the boot.

Your advice was spot on, I think we all know the advice that is helpful and not!
 
personally, i'd get a code reader on it sharpish, and find out whats actually going on... a red oil light is a bad thing.

last time i saw a red oil light, the damage was already done to my bmw M54 engine, which went bang shortly afterwards. admittedly it was my fault for ignoring the yellow low oil light, and running the engine dry... :roll:

but yeah, i really wouldn't drive it without diagnosing exactly what the problem is. if the oil pump is failing and not creating oil pressure then having a full sump of oil isn't going to stop the engine going bang.

I agree what you're saying here, but it seems odd that there was no yellow light, just straight to red?
A loss of oil that catastrophic would surely be visible.
The OP did reply to say the check was showing it full, so I'd hope it is a faulty low level sensor only.
As you say, only a code reader can determine that.
