Search isn't all that effective on this forum, unless anyone can steer me in the right direction.

Due in 750 miles.

John Clark Aberdeen - £271.24 for Oil Change and £93.23 for Brake Fluid Total of £339.97 Got him down to £294.03 for both. Still shocking imo! I need some leverage, what have the rest of you paid for main dealer oil changes.

I paid £250 for an oil service and air-con refresh at David Holmes BMW a couple of months ago.

Will they price match a local indy/specialist?

Not likely, but i'm not asking them too. Price match on main dealers would be the best result,

E-mailed Daz05, he paid £180!

I paid £163.xx at Harry Fairbairn Giffnock for my M3 in April. (it was around £190 and I asked for the plus4 15% discount)

omg, how much is a gallon of oil these days, it must be a 20 minute job

i would have thought £15 for oil, £5 for filter, thats £20 plus 20 mins work, total £30

Oil is £8-£15/litre (depending on where you buy it), so that's £42-£83 for the oil alone
plus £5-£10 for the filter
plus the obligatory 1hr minimum labour charge of £100/hr
= £147-£193, plus 17.5% VAT on the lot

Grand total of £173-£227.

You can do it for about £60 if you do it yourself - and that's including £10 for labour!

I paid £160 for an oil charge at BMW Warwick back in July.

Also paid £83 for the brake fluid change at BMW Leicester, this was only last week.

surely a brake oil change is a bigger job, ok not as much oil but it must take twice as long, do dealers not buy oil in bulk?

I bought the oil service kit from opi oils (oil+filter) for around £65 took it to a local garage who charged £35 to change the oil and replace the filter. Took 30 minutes.

so £100 all in

Whilst I'm not usually the one to defend BMW, the service booklet you get with the car tells you exactly what 'should' be done for your money at a proper oil service at a BMW dealer:
  • Change the engine oil & filter element
  • Reset the Service Interval indicator according to manufacturer's instructions
  • Change cabin micro-filter (if you have air-con)
  • Check front & rear pad levels (doesn't mention discs though)
  • Bed down, check & adjust parking brake (if necessary)
I'm guessing most specialists will miss out the micro-filter, and whilst the e46 M3 has two of these to our one, the M3 ones can be accessed more easily (IIRC). If anyone wants to do the full oil service (to BMW spec) themselves, then here's the instructions for the cabin filter.

John Clark can stick it! I've gone with Harry Fairbairn for £175 + £69 for the brake fluid.

Well i eventually got John Clark down to reasonable cash. Car is running really well now! Seems smoother, and 15.5k till Insp 2! :)

They are also replacing under warranty:

The Gear Knob (The light bit isn't working)
The left hand speaker as it buzzes when on the phone
The Aerial Amp, there are two as it crackles!

They replaced the bulb in the glovebox, the plastic caps on the strutbrace and reprogrammed my one touch window...Had to pay for that stuff tho!

My local Harry Fairbain, main dealer, charged me £160 a cpl of yrs ago,but quoted me £132 in recent months(now with 4plus discount,as its reached that age now). got it done last autumn for £70 by my local garage tho (the price of the oil and filter only),no labour charge :D
Hope this gives u some idea
