Oh joy.....time to argue...Resolved..

Bonjourno,

Took the M for an MOT and rear brake pipes to my local village place 4 weeks ago, told them no hurry but 3 weeks later was pushing it so I said I need the car back for last weekends Newby Hall day. Got it back on the Friday night covered in dust and filth from the rain, I knew it was outside every day as I drove past it enough times parked on the road, which gave me a feeling of impending doom. Put it in the garage and went to Newby in the E89 as I didn’t get chance to wash the M, so today I washed it and discovered this rather nice scuff to the front N/S of the newly refurbed OEM CSL’s, joy.... :x

Hardly the end of the world but getting them to admit it might be difficult, I don’t know, anyway I’ll pop down there tomorrow to have a chat. The ace in my pack though is they haven’t invoiced me as yet so if they play silly buggers I’ll get it refurbed and knock the price, plus carriage, off the bill and let them take me to court if they’re that way inclined. I’m hoping they’ll just hold their hands up, but we’ll see.

UPDATE:
Ok, well, I went to see them this morning first thing and no problem, they didn’t argue at all and offered to get the wheel refurbed or I could take it to somewhere of my choice and they’ll knock all my costs off my invoice. Can’t say fairer than that can you. :D

Thanks very much for the luuuurve chaps....and to Road Warrior for the link, that was useful.

TBH with you John why would you leave your car at an MOT station for that long ?

That's a proper pi33take John.
I'd be fuming too .
I don't expect muffins & magazines from my indy but I do expect whatever car I leave to be treat with care.

Not a chance in hell they will admit to that. They will say you must have done it on the drive home

AGREES
tbo, i would be chasing the muppets after 2 days - never mind 3 weeks, my idea of no hurry is before you go home day one.

Think your spot on with not paying the full amount to be honest. I’d take a receipt in for the refurb and pay them that amount less. I’d be surprised if they pursued circa £100. Presumably it’s the last time the garage will work on your cars so it’s not like it will be awkward going forwards.

Village garage Lynchy, I know them, they initially said a week for the brake pipes as they were busy so I said no problem, I did call in a few times to give them the hurry up but wasn’t overly pushy as it wasn’t essential I had the car back. I guess I wasn’t pushy enough admittedly.

I'd be pretty mad too!

I suppose that's the problem if you don't chase them - the longer they have the car the more chance there is of something going wrong. :(

I just hope you can get a good outcome.

Yep loads of scuff marks on the door bin and door seal rubber too Andy, I haven’t cleaned these as I’ll show them those as well. :x

Have to say I would not be happy.
Seems they have a total disregard for the customers car.
I’d be asking how the hell they managed to scuff the wheel like that when it was supposedly only at most being moved a short distance.
Makes you wonder if it’s been taken out for a jolly and then scuffed while parking it.
You don’t scuff a wheel moving a car into a workshop and out again unless you’re total muppets 😳

Does make you wonder what they were actually doing with the car to do that. simply moving it around their premises or a full bore "roadtest!" of say 20 miles "just to be sure" the new brake pipes work. Did they do the MOT first by any chance weeks ago? If so I'd check the MOT mileage against what its on now and what you know you've done in it since

I'd guess it was while 'aligning' it to go up on the lift. Most of them seem to have a ramp with sides to it to 'guide' the car on. Why actually try to steer it when the 'guide' will straighten it up for you? Combine a high metal side wall on the ramp with a low profile tyre and that's the result.

John, sorry but you're a dufus. Telling them you weren't in a rush was your first clanger. Expecting them not to have some fun and games and a few doughnuts and drag races around the carpark while it was in their ownership was your second

Seriously though, can you prove they curbed your wheels?
This is one of the reasons I'm looking for a decent dashcam with a park and gps mode. If uda had one of those installed maybe you could have garnered some indisputable evidence against them....

Oh that would seriously pee any one off John? Agree with your plan. Local garage go in freindly and hope they fees up. If not knock it from the bill and go elsewhere in future.

Gutted for you pal. Ask them nicely and if they play silly buggers then KNOCK THEM THE FOOK OUT

This is one of the extra benefits of fitting an Intravee - It has a journal which maintains a record of the last 17 journeys (text below is from the user manual)

The Intravee will log various information about each journey your car makes, a journey is defined as the time between starting and stopping the engine. Each entry will contain the start time and date together with the duration of the journey. The entry will also contain the maximum speed attained and the maximum engine RPM. The last 17 journeys will be logged, after entry number 17 has been used, entry number 1 will be re-used.

Whenever I drop my car off at a dealers, I walk them around the car and agree that there's no existing damage (and get them to record this) and I make a point of mentioning that it has a data logger fitted so I'll be able to check what's been happening while it's with them... it won't stop them kerbing the wheels but it'll show if they've been trying an Italian tuneup

Cheers guys....

I’ve got an Intravee but disconnected it as I thought it might be causing a parasitic battery drain which turned out to be a faulty ignition switch and I didn’t get round to plugging it back in....

The wheel is annoying but I’m not going to get all heated up about it, as I say I’ll just knock the refurb cost off the MOT and brake pipe invoice if they won’t fess up and let them take it from there if that’s what they want, It’s not worth getting too steamed up about it, it could’ve been worse, I’m just glad the paintwork wasn’t scratched after Beedub detailed it.
