Official Quad Exhaust Modification Topic

I've done mine (as everyone knows) and come out with a mellow not at all loud sound. Not suprising since I used ///M backboxes.

You don't have to have bleeding ears just because you have quads, that's personal choice.

Well after driving back from work tonight the drone disappears when I open the window on the motorway??? I have read adding weights to the pipes might help change the resonance of the pipes?

Any pointers?

Can I suggest keeping this topic to just it's own thread you have started, rather than duplicating

Me too - tried everything and correct; opening window somehow helps, mayve it interrupts the vibration through the car.

Mine's going back in on Thurs, shall let you know if we find a solution.

Not sure if this is off-topic as relates to issues with the new quad exhaust? An issue a few of us have had in past week or so since fitting.

Power Loss..?!

Picked up car from having a service & mechanic said sounds great but big power loss with exhaust, should be a lot quicker - wtf!?

It seems the same to me but I guess he's the 'expert'

Here are some more pics. Might get it dyno'd and maybe an ecu upgrade?

Wills. Is that a big glob exhaust putty sealing a blowing weld on the first pic, personally I would not be happy with that it just strikes me of bodge and a whole heap of potential problems later on, I would be straight back to whoever did the work and expecting them to sort at their expense.
But other than looking good  just don't which to go when I get mine done hopefully towards the end of year or early in the new year at the latest.

It's back in tomorrow to have a few tweeks, but they said putty is put around tops of weld as precaution (?)

Also they said going from single silencer to 2 small silencers shouldn't cause any drop in pressure / power..?

Being the paranoid saddo that I am, I've just tested some 0-60 runs on clear empty road, as worried about this 'power loss'!

Rather crude with a stopwatch but 3 0-60 runs as follows;
1st; 5.8
2nd; 6.2
3rd; 5.6

Obviously a crude test, but confirms what I thought - I really dont think I've lost power. Maybe power at low end revs but still pulls like a proverbial at higher revs

Thoughts anyone?

Wills - that is really poor quality work
Blobs of sealer are not precautions - they've got a big hole to hide
I don't like that bar joining 2 boxes. Its welded to flat sheet and not strong corner.
This whole thing looks prone to vibrate, resonate, rattle and leak

I would want my money back or the whole thing stripping of and doing correctly

edit
This is the sort of quality you shoudl be getting in welds and pipework:

It's going in tomorrow, shall have words.

When you say it's welded to flat sheet & not strong corner what does this mean?

It does look a bit thrown together I have to admit! I will take a look underneath my car tonight and post some pictures of what mine looks like :D

An exhaust of that type is flat sheet stainless rolled into a tube and then 2 end caps fixed on.
The strongest point is the end caps/edge seam, not simply welding a rod crudely to the side. In 6 months it will fatigue and fall to bits.
IMHO each of those pipe runs should be separate and fixed on their own hangers and not in any event joined. Looks like some short cut they have taken.

Go to another shop on your way by and get a second opinion.

That's right for exact same job. They certainly talked the talk but going back in tomorrow.

I have also left message at Longlife / Topgear HQ for chap that looks after franchises to call me as not happy!!

Are you happy with yours & no probs with power loss / vibrations etc?

Can report no power loss or rattles with mine.. If anything I would say it seems a little quicker. Less restricted somehow.. Maybe thats just psychological though

PS if your local to me you can pop over to have a look and compare noise etc

Cheers shall give Dean a chance to redeem himself tomorrow. I hear Steve has left & they did seem rather manic so perhaps it was a rush job.

I live over Oswestry way but might well be in touch depending what he does tomorrow.
