I like the look of the new Z4, but I'm glad to see that there does not appear to be a dramatic change in body style (other than the hard top of course). As a fan of convertibles, I much prefer the soft top of my '06 Z4 and have never been a fan of the Z4 coupe. I guess now, people can have their pie and eat it too with the retractable hard top. I do like what they did adding the side vents and side lights, but I think they should have just done away with the side BWM emblems. Plus, the S Drive 35i name is a bit too long and they should have gone with 3.5i instead. I'm sure that there will be threads on here in the near future asking how to remove the side lettering...that's a lot of letters to remove covering much more real estate...not sure dental floss will be able to work without scratching.

 I'm with you on the badging; what is the S drive all about? What was wrong with a simple number like 3.0i? Absolutely nothing wrong with the BMW emblem on the side, but that S Drive is taking away from the look; time for it to go. And I have to admit that though I would like a Z4 emblem on the car, centering it below the BMW emblem on the trunk may have been a better idea.

The new side vents are a nice design addition, IMHO. Overall, I approve of the redesign. Things that I guess we will have to see for ourselves are trunk size (current is shy of being able to carry two suitcases) and how those guages really look on the center of the dash (probably just the photo making them look like they are glued on).

The business stereo has always been, in my opinion, a great sounding stereo with the 10 speakers well placed. I am wondering what the professional brings to the table since there is little, soundwise, that can be improved. The $100k Carrerra does not match up to the sound my old Z4 offers.

As far as the new top, I have always loved my ragtop, but have had to admit that well designed removable hard tops can be attractive; thinking the MB SLK, Lexus SC, and MB SL models in particular. BMW seems to have followed suit with a very nice looking top.

Those side blinkers make me throw up a little in my mouth every time I see them. But the rest of the car is looking good!
Those are just screaming for an aftermarket fix.

Overall, good looking, IMHO. Figure the price to be going up though :( because of the new top and more powerful engine. My old 3.0 has always had enough power for me, 225 hp, and the gas mileage has been good; happy to stay within those parameters.

Just read in Autoweek the Low 50's for the sDrive35i and Mid 40's for the sDrive30i....US prices.

didnt like it at first, but as with all new bm models its growing on me fast. doubt theyll bring out a coupe tho with the metal folding roof :( . Would like to see a widened M(V8) version like they do with the new M3? looks good tho

Dammit, I looked....that is an awesome looking car!!! Love the new body lines and the interior improvements. Damn...I want one now

About a $10k rise in price is significant in this economy. Likely I'll take a pass on the first year or so. Nice that they stayed with the classic roadster style that I love.

Well I must say that our our Z4 ....03-08 are very unique looking and this one is a very nice car, but it has lost the (oh look a z4) no car on the road looks anything like our z4, but now this one just blends in more with the other bimmers and convertibles, I wonder how it drives, I'm sure the drive is not as dramatic as going from a z3 to z4, no way, the z4 is pretty darn good, big improvement from the z3, anyway my car is paid for and I love it and will keep it many more years to come.

I also think the idrive in this car and most cars is a disaster, you want to change the settings for radio and the like on the fly without taking your eyes off the road, very distracting and bothersome in my opinion, leave the (control panel) on the pc, not for a car.

I absolutely have to agree that, though I have had some nice cars, I have never had one that gets the attention that this one has. From the time I bought it in 2003, people have always remarked about how they love it; unsolicited, at gas stations, on the road, just about everywhere, and though I considered Maldives to be a pretty nice color, I am surprised at how many people walk by and say "love the color." There is no doubt that of the people that would appreciate a car for style, the Z4 gets a lot of looks.

I'm not sure if and when I may get a new Z4; I love the look, but mine has been paid for and is in good shape. Add to that the fact that the increased price may put it at $60k, it may have fallen out of the range that I will pay for a car (looking at $50k as my personal view of the top limit). My 3.0 with a few options came in at $45k or so (there were no bargains when they first came out); never regretted it, but I probably would if I paid $15k more for a little restyling.

And the Idrive; had it on a couple loaners; never want it on any car I own; it adds steps to things that should be totally simple, like changing the radio station or air conditioning. Amazing that, though everyone and every critic has stated how annoying this process is, BMW has chosen to ignore all the complaints.

I'll probably keep my Z4 for at least another couple years; my wife's Boxster will have to go first; just not reliable. Not sure just what I will get at that time, but we both agree on the $50k ceiling.

Well, I have to say that it's a nice looking car! It's a bit 6 series at the back but overall it looks OK. It's moving up market and I suspect the original idea was to bring in a Z2 based on the 1 series chassis. But with car sales the way they are the Z2 may be shelved and then you may see a 2 litre and diesel version of the Z4 sometime to fill the gap.

That is what I'm thinking; they are moving up market. It seems a strange thing to do when the Z4 has basically ruled in sales for the market segment it has been in and with the economy in the dumpster, going up in price is certain to limit sales. They may be positioning the new Z4 to be in even more direct competition with the Boxster, but with Boxster sales going further south each year, you have to question the wisdom in that strategy.

Having both, I can say that the Z4 is a more comfortable cruiser while the Boxster is not a car for the long distance, but handles a bit better (a factor I attribute to the steering). It is a matter of what aspects you view more important. From the looks, the Z4 has it hands down IMHO.

interior is great. the outside looks like a combo of the 3 series and the 6. doesnt stand out like the current zed.

I view it just the opposite; the exterior looks very good; compared to some other cars, the interior lacks excitement. :o

When the Z4 came out way back in 2003 I took a shine to it instantly. When the Z4 Coupe came out, it was like perfection had been improved. For some reason, I`m not so keen on this makeover at the moment although in some of the pics it does indeed look very nice. In some of the pics it looks like the top of the bodywork has been raised a few inches front and rear kind of making it look a bit bulky (Hyundi Coupe like). The pics with the top up look better than with it down. I also prefer my sportscars a little minimalist - the old Z4 interior might be better. I look forward to seeing more pics in the future and a few in the flesh.

Wonder if they`ll make a proper fixed top coupe later?

Yes I noticed this too, the effect is that you need bigger wheels to make it look good, 19s required.

Yes I believe they will, that's just speculation though.
