OEM //M silencer mod

Before I go further, no slagging the fake diffuser fins, still not sure if I'm keeping them

Hope this link works. Video isn't a cold startup, not captured that yet. But taken after about a 1 mile loop. Not sure whether you can detect it in the video, but there is quite clearly some pops and crackles going on at around 37-39 sec and from 45 sec onwards, much louder in real life, the video is very quiet. I expect this to be even more prominent once the car is fully warmed up. The exhaust used to burble away when driven hard and with the roof down.

Not a great video by any means, ancient camera, will get a better one at the weekend. I've only driven it around the block, so no more than half throttle and 30ish mph.

Initial impressions.
Cold Startup - Louder and Deeper
Definitely sounds louder in the cabin pulling out the garage etc
1/4 throttle, again much deeper.
1/2 throttle, deeper tone turns into a much raspier noise than before.... jury is still out on that part of the sound.
Warmish startup - A little louder and deeper.

Hoping to get out in the next hour to let the car get warmed up and use all the revs, will report back then as I'll have a much better feel for it.

Sounds like an animal!! I might keep an eye out for spare boxes! Are these the boxes which you were working on Mat?

Snarly is a good word for it Mat. Video doesnt show how loud it it, sounds too muffled compared to real life. Will report back at 10, away out

They sound good

This is the before and after on mine, apologies for the wind noise. The after part is less windy. We started her up roof down in a car park with the pipes near the wall and the noise was epic. My son recorded it and sent it to a friend :D

Sounds great!

Stuart what method of internals did you go for?

I wonder if the Rasp is generated by having less of the perforated piping and more solid tube to resonate.

Just back from a 20 mins loop. Despite spending about 20+ hours correcting the paint and detailing I took it out in the the pi$$ing down rain, it was great to be back behind the wheel after 3 months, even got the roof down for a short section :driving: :driving: :driving:

I still can't find the words to describe the noise, I guess it's more raspy, almost a more hollow noise on full throttle, certainly intoxicating and livens things up, racier if that makes sense. If I was to compare it to other cars, it's a cross between how a CSL sounds (exhaust, obviously not intake) and a flat 6 from an older 911. Do I prefer it? Still undecided on that. If any local members want to hear it and try to describe it better than me then give me a shout.

If you come off full throttle quickly between 3000-4000rpm there is definitely a crackling\popping noises going on, happens randomly at other points in the range too.

Lastly, massive shout out to MM, awesome work mate! I know it wasn't an easy job and probably not one you want to take on again, but I really appreciate it. Exhaust tips are spot on and finish off the rear of the car perfectly!

I bought the backboxes pre-modded from another forum member who'd sold his car. He told me they'd been done to Exdos' design. I didn't want to chop up bits of IMmie and so I have a set of almost new standard back boxes for if I have a massive shiny moment and sell her and go back to stock.

My wife listened to me go down the street, she used the word hollow, not raspy... Either way it's very different to how it used to be. It's completely changed the characteristics of the sound. Whereas when I did it an external bypass mod with my S2000 it more or less stayed the same, just 20% louder.

I'd like to hear it myself from the outside.

Cool, an outside vid would be good too. thanks for your efforts!

hope you enjoy it :)

is basically like mine to sound like a 996 c4s with the PSE enabled :D

By the external bypass mod, do you mean similar to the pipes we have from warren engineering. Mine are still sitting in the boot!

I think so yes.

i definitely get some form of popping sound from my exhaust, only when revved to top end and immediately release the throttle though, but it may not be popping from excess fuel? tested it on Sunday when exhaust was hot. confused.

I didn't realise you had fitted these? Might need to pop over and have a listen. Never heard them in real life before. Would be good to hear in person before I get mine fitted!

I havent :p ive just spent so long researching!

i get pops on my oem system when its revved hard and hot.

ive got spare oem boxes waiting to be modded but still undecided on which method as yet.
