OBD Cover

I have a 2016 Z4. I am looking for the curved cover that goes in the kick panel to cover the OBD socket on the offside.
Thanks. Can someone tell me where I might find one and the part number.
TIA Geoff

From what I've heard on here previously - you cannot just buy the cover seperately from BMW. It comes as part of the larger plastic piece (which you can buy).

You can find a parts breakdown diagram & the part number you need over at real oem.

A small square of 2" black insulating tape will be a lot cheaper and do the job, albeit not very prettily.

Thank you B21. I have asked if it definitely comes with the OBD cover. I now it shows it in the picture but best to ask I think.

I didn't say I would do it...it was a suggestion. :D

The thing that would worry me more, though, is the fact that the OBD port must have been used a LOT of times for the cover to break. :(

Incorrect..again…

It’s actually very easy to catch the flap when you are taking the OBD reader out..as I found out you can think you’ve closed it only to discover you haven’t then catch it on your trouser leg and then..ping..if you are unlucky you break one of the ‘little knobs’ on either end of the flap..then you’ll need your duct tape to hold it in place..

Ask them if it works properly or it could be like mine that doesn't shut firmly.

Not true I kind of broke mine the second time I opened it now it doesnt shut firmly.

I'm sure that only the OBD plug cover can be replaced separatrly, because it was missing when I bought my E89. I know that the whole trim panel wasn't replaced.

The thing is that I can't remember if ithe OBD plug cover was replaced before picking it up from the seller or by the local indie who did the service immediately after my purchase. I need to check the paperwork I have.

I know that realoem doesn't show it as an identified part that can be ordered separately, but I wonder if it's a part that matches that from another model.

I'd need to go back thtough service records, or look to see if there a part number moulded into the plastic.

Cheers!
Andy

Hi Andy. I have been told by different sources that the cover is part of the whole trim panel and cannot be ordered separately.

Hi Geoff,

The OBD cover was replaced in the pre-collection service which had picked up on all the points I raised with the dealer on the E89 I bought.

I was supplied with the service invoice which included the line "OBD Cover - Black - £34.20 Inc VAT" - unfortunately no part number details.

At that price a second-hand trim panel like the one referenced earlier in this thread is likely to be a more economic solution... other than the duct tape suggestion :D

Cheers!

Hi Andy
I have ordered the one in the thread after they confirmed it has the cover.
Cheers
Geoff
