Number Plates Stolen Z4M Roadster

Morning all,
What a morning, I'm asking for some advise here, I picked up my Z4M last Saturday from the dealership, My First Z4 and I've waited quiet a few years for this car!! Last night I had both number plates robbed in a hotel carpark in Hertfordshire. First thing was to report this to the local
police and I've been given a crime number should I be pulled in the future. I'm now anticipating getting stopped by every cop in the UK as my original plates are reported stolen. Would personal plates stop the hassle I'm now going to get? I know that gangs are robbing plates to use them for other crimes like speeding, drive offs and illegal parking etc etc. Any thoughts ? I'm so P****ed off at the moment as they have sratched all paint off the front number plate holder prising off the plate. I've not even had the car a week :headbang:

Any advise would be great, just not looking forward to all the tickets that are coming my way.

Regards

Dan

Sorry to hear that. 4rseholes like that should have their hands chopped off and fed to them.

i would have thought the dvla could either issue you with another plate if you have a crime number? i would query it but its just me thinking out loud.

a private plate would also stop you being pulled over as it is obviously different

Major pain in the arse!

Have a read...

Sounds like there's not a lot to do!

Gutted for you though Dan, I know they've not taken the car but this sort of thing really takes the shine off something special!

the chance of them sticking them on a Z4M in your colour are going to be quite rare I'd suspect, so hopefully the police won't be pulling you all of the time.

Private plates are less likely to get nicked, as they're more obvious, but if they do get nicked, I believe you then have to wait a whole year before you can use them again :/

Sorry to hear they messed up the paint... tw@ts.

(btw - checked for hotel CCTV?)

Thats hard luck and must make you feel like killing someone. Get a private plate that is very obvious. This will deter any other anus from taking them as they prefer run of the mill paltes. It will also prevent you getting pulled and tickets regarding your old plates. Any dealer will sort out private plates. Dispite the problem enjoy your Z4. :driving

Thanks Guys, I think private plates are the way to go in regards to being pulled by the police in the future . I have a 250 mile trip back home after work tonight and I have a feeling that it will be an interesting one, I'll just have to drive like Mrs Daisy :driving: just in case.

Wouldn't want to pick up 3 points and £60 by the police just because they are checking out the car

Cheers

Dan

( Edit, Police are going to check the Hotel CCTV footage this morning, the Hotel in question is supposed to have night security to look after vehicles in the carpark!! )

At least you won't have to worry about the SPECs cameras on the M6 :P

Possible claim for the paint damage?...mind you I bet they got one of those uber generic 'you can't touch us' signs that get them out of something blatent like a horse sat on it while the security guard was watching it and filming it on his phone...

Right pita.

Frankly I'd just buy another set and carry on. If you planned to get a private reg then do that in your own good time. It takes weeks to buy one, transfer it and get if on anyway.

If any speeding fines, specs. etc. come through they will already be in the system or well before you can do anything, so almost too late as the toe rags will already have used them for their chosen crime. I know as my estate was cruised by guys with stolen plates the day after they stole them and ready for that days thieving

crikey, I have heard of them cloning plates, which if you are a criminal makes sense, but not actually nicking them, because then the police (supposedly) are looking out for them,

probably easier to steal them than get false ones made up these days.

I have lots of old plates in my garage, thought about making up a 007 revolving plate. 8)

Does not take a lot of detective work to find out that they all once belonged to a certain Mr SrHutch. :D

Seems a strange car to nick plates off, unless of course you were planning to clone another Z4M. Ideally, if you were taking plates for criminal activities you'd rob plates from an identical car so it would pass any casual Police interest.

Why does it matter what car you nick them off? Criminals are just after a set of plates and ideally with a non descript number AB02 ABC etc.
APNR systems would do nothing unless a police office is following a suspect car and it comes back that those plates belong to a Z4.

Of course if the criminla were cloning rahter than just using them short term then they woudl look for an identical year, model, colour, but then surely they would make new plates so as not to alert police to the clone.

This is worth a read.....

http://www.denbighshirefreepress.co.uk/news/81492/number-plate-theft-is-now-growing-concern-for-police.aspx

As Jeeps quite rightly says' ANPR only reads the plate not the car - so a car with false/stolen plates on passing through an ANPR check would not register UNLESS the plates have been reported stolen and this info is put on the ANPR database either locally or nationally.

Yes I see what you mean, if the plates aren't reported stolen ANPR wouldn't pick it up. Anti -theft screws it is then :)

But why bother - so long as you can prove you weren't the perp in any offence that results, who cares if they nick your plates.....ok its an inconvenience, but if you stick 'em on with double sided at least they won't f*ck your bumper up trying to get them off....

There was a story on the news recently where a guy had his plates stolen and the car they went on was used in London. Didn't pay the congestion charge (of course) and he was prosecuted. He eventually got off after the schools CCTV showed his car was not in London, however it cost him hundreds to clear his name, was made to feel like a criminal and eventually had to have a new licence plate issued.

As an aside just how hard is it to actually prove your car was not in a given place at a given time. I bet it's pretty tough actually ???

Especially when it was parked up at home in the garage at the time ... Motoring law means guilty until proven innocent remember.
