Number Plate lights installation - tips

Ok, have just replaced my number plate lights with the LED ones.

The LEDs themselves have been discussed a few times, but mine came from here

When you use the screwdriver to push the clip in (my left light, the opening in the light was on the right, and so it was on the right light. This seems to vary by car for some reason), you then need to get your fingers around them to pull them out. During this process, you bend the clip out of shape and you will not be able to put it back in the car without "re-doing" the clip again into its original shape.

I have seen this question before on the forum and there is no actual image of what the clip should look like, so I thought I would take a picture of what it should look like.

Easiest is to remove the clip from the light holder altogether (you just press the little pin in the middle of the holder to flatten it and you can slide it out).

So this is the clip after I re-bent it back in a shape how it should be to ensure a good grip. If you don't do it this way, your light will drop down a little at the side where the clip is as it will be pushing the light down if incorrectly bent. I wanted perfection so took my time to make the clip all 100% again.

So this is the clip in the appropriate shape:

And once inserted back in the fitting, it will just click back in its place as the little clip in the middle comes out of the hole in the holder to keep it in place.

The finished look of the holder prior to insertion:

Now it will just click back in properly.

Thanks for this mate-one of mine keeps popping out,i tried to remove it to fit some led's but wouldnt come out  -i didnt want to force it out in case i ended up needing a new bumper!

Just pull it from the side where the clip is, you will bend the clip but that is not a problem as that is what it is meant to do.

Once out - it is easy then again to take the clip out and put it back into a shape. Unfortunately, you can only guess what it should be as it is mangled by the time you hold it :)

Did this the other day too...with pics showing comparison of bulbs:

And everything PVR says I can concur with! Good write up mate

i never manage to get mine to sit properly after i took them out, so used some double sided tape to secure them in. the stuff you heat up. worked a treat.

PVR - As you're the expert on these LED's ;) Can you please point me in the direction of the best and brightest LED for the boot?

I find the standard bulb pretty dim and can't seem to work out which one I need after a good portion of time searching on fleabay!

Thanks in anticipation...:)

what a few have done is to fit a 30-60cm strip of led lights across the top of the boot (not on the lid) and connect via the original socket using just the plastic housing from a sidelight bulb. Link to both below.

I've bought all the stuff just need to fit, like my LED numberplate bulbs and interior lights. But that won't be a surprise to many. :D

Ok thanks guys. Thing is I was just hoping for a single bulb swap, as easy as it was for the numberplate ones. Not fussed for a strip or anything too fussy if that makes sense? Does that sort of thing exist? Bearing in mind I have a Coupe...

This should do for the boot:
