Nanu in my old 3.0i sport gave me the best mpg, by +3, but it was auto. I have only tried it for a few days in the 28i but its not as clear as yet. Its going up all the time possibly as its now run in.
I need to find a steady base line to conclude, but E89 3.0i auto I always ran in manual shift sports to give me best MPG and to be honest more fun. May be with the different map on sports getting up to speed in the less number of gear changes saved petrol in the end. The auto did drop into 5th at 30mph so I could not get it into 6th only at 36mph so one gear too low. using manual shift I would always be puching the highest gear as I can all the time and a lot of engine brake using the paddles.
Now back to the 28i manual I am coasting a lot, and running 6th even at 25mph and not changing down. Auto stop start whenever I can, no aircon, and blower set to manual minimum. (mornings may have heating on say 4 and at 26).

Will be interesting Nanu, I think the top down improves it possibly +3 mpg benefit?. Dont forget to put the AC off and fan speed to 1.

Outward with roof up and steady driving 38.7mpg. Return with roof down and sports mode all the way and enjoying the drive if you know what I mean, returned 40.5mpg??? Interesting thought that sports mode increases MPG.

In the olden days, little 850cc Minis used to get struggle to get that sort of mpg!
jaz4 said:Yep the mpg were getting lets us enjoy, 26mpg in the 30i is a different story though...

At the risk of sounding like uncle Albert in fools and horses,
In the 70's a 3.0 V6 Ford Capri only got very low 20's mpg and only produce (as I recall) about 120 bhp
So 30mpg and 250 bhp isn't that bad.

The 2.8 was the later updated posh engine with fuel injection I believe ?
They had come on in leaps and bounds since I had mine in '74![]()
Mostly up hill on the way there and down hill on the way back. Makes quite a big difference!Nanu said:Drove from Sunderland to Carlisle a distance of about 80 miles each way of 50% dual and 50% twisty stuff with limited overtaking but foot to the floor when the opportunity presented.
