Is it dark blue or black?

As mentioned earlier if you’re looking for tips/hints/steers give Si (Patriot66) a shout. He’s done a cracking install on his, I saw it just after it was finished and it looks like it’s always been there, very tidy install. He’s very knowledgeable and has done a few tweaks from the stock set up iirc. I know he’s very happy with his and the power increases from the chat we had.

Yes,Simon's fit install is top notch,as u say,it looks like it's meant to be there and a factory Install

Well... that certainly stirred up a conversation.

As the title suggested, its very much preference, completely understand the points of not making financial sense, but for me personally I do things to my own taste and its a labour of love in order to enable the biggest grin for me when i go out at the weekend.

The beauty side of things, again, some like blondes some like brunettes, some like big noses some like big arses, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

So to conclude, although supercharging a 3k car after already spending nearly 3k on top to bring her back to life and considering another 3k to give her some more power in my eyes is worth doing as you hold on to things you love. Rather deep for a Monday morning given.. I think im right in saying at some point when she's all finished there will be SOMEONE out there that has the same taste and appreciates it from a fun point of view and not as an old diminishing asset that's lost value for money so they can't go and get a newer model.

:-P

Well said,Zoid.
As I said, the car looks lovely

If you're going to look into supercharger kits, there was a group buy last year that Lewis was doing if u search for it,the G power/Infinitas kit that Simon and others have bought,at a fair discount.
Worth trying to get them to match it?

Hi Zoid/Fellas
Thanks for all the nice comments/praise on my S/C install. Zoid, I'm a bit tied up at work until later but I'll post some info/photos/opinions on fitting my S/C when I get chance, hopefully this evening

Ok so you have started from the best looking Z4 period, IMHO. But, oh yes there is a but. uprating the power from the 2.5, when there are a number of uprated versions from BMW that you could start from. That I don't get. Fair enough if it's tinkering and modding that you love, then you are doing the right thing. But otherwise, simply start with a more powerful Z4 and you can finish with an ultimate Z4, something like Beedub has. :driving:

Going to go supercharger. Decision made. Here she is. Back in garage on valentines then again following week for some body bits like spoiler but she's coming together. Switching the lights to get rid of the yellow brows and the yellow fogs

Hi ZOID, got to ask, what wheels are they? They look great.

@buzyg there is more to the story TBH. It was my dearest, closest friends car initially who started the project. I purchased from him to continue with it as we both love the look of MK1 Z4 having had Z3 6 Pot 15 odd years ago myself. The 6 cylinder (baby TVR noise) with a straight pipe and just utter excitement. It is such a good base of beauty and sound for a weekend toy at such a small cost, yes could have gone for bigger engine initially but I didn't make that one, and what he started with I am continuing with and its fun doing it. I know it makes no financial sense to spend thousands on supercharging it nor does it to buy a toy with only yourself in mind.

So it was a car that I knew, a car that my dearest friend owned and cherished and I wanted to continue with it, so when he decided he wanted to let her go or I bit his hand off to buy it, it was a no brainer. So I guess a debate is rather pointless as my decisions on the car are based on emotions and nothing else. How does it make me feel, how does it sound, what's its history etc. Again its not everyone's cup of tea, I wanted to share the project for some fun. :-)

If it gets too outrageously ridiculous then the more fun for lols for everyone. ;-)

I'll still be happy

Well with that background story it makes perfect sense and you are starting with a great looking car!

At the end of the day most of us on here love a project that makes no financial sense so good luck with it.

Good looking car, and a “filter” may play with colouring etc., but it hasn’t altered the shape here. And the wheels are the only ones I’d have on mine if I was to change the 108’s. Spending g 50% of the cars value on a supercharger is bonkers. But. It’s yours, do what you want with it.

Amen to that (both the love for the car and the sometimes preposterous financials that come with it)

It’s a car with a story to you, one that has ties to a friendship. I just bought (back) the Alfa 147 Blackline as a daily runabout that once belonged to my best friend and business partner (his first serious car actually); I understand where you’re coming from.

So go on, do it! A lot of things in life don’t make sense, might as well do something that will make you smile

Hi Zoid. So you're supercharging your Z4 eh ? Great ! Welcome to the club ! :D
Apologies for my delay in replying to your original post but as has been previously mentioned I was part of Lewis Jennings group buy of Infinitas (G-Power) superchargers back at the end of 2021. I fitted the kit myself in February/March last year followed in April by a 'shakedown' weekend with some forum friends in N.Wales and then a 1,400 mile round trip doing the NC500 in Scotland. The car has now done almost 5,500 supercharged miles in total...without a single fault or issue :driving: :D
So, a little background to my install. I was in the motor trade for 30 years, 15 of those with the Halliwell Jones BMW Group. I instantly fell in love with the Z4 on its release in March '03, particularly the 3.0i E85 demo with SMG gearbox. A change of circumstances and career in 2014 and I wanted to acquire a long term project car to 'keep my hand in' as it were. I looked high and low for a nice 3.0i E85 with SMG. Eventually in Jan '15 I found an immaculate, 2 owner, low miles (53k), well spec'd example...with a hardtop too, for £3,900. However, it was a 2.5i. Oh well, Hey-ho ! I can live with that. You can't have everything, right ? In the 8 years since then I have changed/repaired/replaced/'upgraded' almost every component, acquainted myself with every nut and bolt and slowly fallen in love with the car...but all the time wishing it had maybe just a little more power, a bit more torque...more oomph !
So when Lewis announced on the forum that he had negotiated with Infinitas for superchargers at exceptional prices it didn't take long for me to put my name on the list. So I would be getting an increase of about 60 hp and 45 Nm, a challenging project and self-satisfaction all for the princely sum of £2,245 inc.shipping, vat and import taxes/duties.
The kit itself is robust, simple and reliable with no charge-cooler required. Lubrication and cooling is via an adaptor into the oil filter housing and draining back into the sump via another adaptor on the dipstick tube. Nice and simple. The s/c can easily be fitted in a couple of days by any competent mechanic, although my Z4 was up on axle stands for 6 weeks as I also took the opportunity to overhaul/clean/paint quite a few other components at the same time, working in the evenings and weekends. As I'm not massively computer savvy the most worrying part of the install for me was the map update via my laptop and the supplied OBD cable and I-Flash download. It was actually surprisingly easy
Anyway, the car is now just shy of 250hp and torque is up to 290Nm which is a huge transformation and in conjunction with the SMG makes for a superb drive. Just right, not a surfeit of power but enough and the increased mid-range torque makes things much more entertaining and satisfying...especially when you've done it all yourself :D
IF you feel like you do require more power then there is always the option of a smaller s/c pulley and different map
M-Style have this same Infinitas kit on their website at £5,500  https://www.mstyle.co.uk/bmw-z-series/z4-and-z4m-e85-e86/tuning/superchargers/g-power/g-power-sk-plus-rs-supercharger-245-for-e85-e86-z4-2-5i.html
From a German seller on Ebay it is approx £3000 + £170 shipping from Germany, which I think is still superb value for money especially when you sound like you intend to keep the car a long time... like I do. Mine's a keeper, I have no intention of selling it. Having said that somebody did make me a very serious offer for the car last year but upon reflection I love the car so much, enjoy it so much, have invested so much of myself in the car over the years that I just cannot part with it. I would regret it for a VERY long time :(
Zoid, I'm up in West Lancashire so I'm afraid I can't recommend any tuners down in the South West to do an install but I can thoroughly recommend the Infinitas Supercharger

A few photos of the supercharger kit, stages of the install, finished product etc.... to whet your appetite :D
