NORTH'D CASTLES AND COAST 13th Sept PHOTOS

Met up with Cherrym today to drive through the full route, check timings and get some feedback (we need extra folk that know the route with a possibility of 20+ Zeds attending - Chezsherman will be helping out as well)

Waiting at the start point at 10am for Cherrym

New first coffee stop at Alnwick

Quite a lot of sea water on the causeway to Holy Island (there have been some high tides recently and this is the worst we've seen it  Most of the causeway was dry however - just this section with puddles). We'll have to see how it looks on the day. We suggest that if some folk don't want to take their Zeds over the causeway on the day, they can stay at Bead's Barn carpark (just before the causeway) until we return.

The timings worked out but please note, with the extra distance of our visit to Holy Island we will be having a late lunch stop at Seahouses - the fish and chip shop and the ice cream dairy are all set to receive us.

So route finalised - the total mileage was 144 miles from the start to the Ice Cream Dairy just off the A1 where folk from the North can head home and those who want to continue can follow us back to the start on more back lanes (avoiding the A1) or if preferred can head south on the A1 for speed.

More details and pms to follow. Thanks, Paul and Steph.

Really appreciate all the planning and effort that all you guys are putting in behind the scenes to make the day a success, I can't wait

I can see the day is going to be one very slick operation with precision timings and better choreography than Strictly Come Dancing , so far it's a 10 from me :D

Thanks Nick - getting in the visit to Holy Island has stretched it a bit but We are there now

Have outlined this year's route on p1.

Looking forward to catching up

Hi All, I'm going to be sending out pms to those on the list, asking for confirmation where needed and giving our mobile tel number.
Please check your pm and do remember to let me know if you are not coming (we don't want to be waiting at the start). A text will do.

If you're running late or delayed on the day, I suggest you meet us at the Hog's Head Inn, (NE66 2BF) opposite Alnwick, on the A1 (our first stop at approx. 11.05am)

If you are a first timer then please have a read through 'Spokey's Guide to Cruise Etiquette' at the top of the Meets/Events/Road Trips section of the Forum.

This is a tour rather than a hoon (we have plenty of hoons you can attend - one in October) but we will have to press on a bit in places.

Cherrym, Chezsherman and Toe-side have offered to help. They will position themselves at strategic points in the column to avoid anyone getting lost. There's no way Steph and I can keep an eye on so many, so that's much appreciated. Thanks all.

That's the opposite side of the city for me, what about the travel lodge off the city bypass at Dreghorn junction, that way we are ideally situated for either the A68 or A1 :driving:

7.30 start sounds about right to me :)

That's good for me and very easy to find for anyone else that wants to join in! :driving:

:D
We will meet you both there at 7.30.
Will PM you my number

Not got any pm.......lol

Hi Craig, sent the pm to Cherrym/Chezsherman and Toe-side first and was out all day yesterday at the Victory Show in Leicestershire - excellent.

I'm starting to send the pm's out now - I'll send yours first - Lol :D

Hi all, We're getting close now - hope you've got your pms

As this is the weekend of the Great North Run, traffic on the A1M may be busy as might the Kingston Park/Airport turnoff, so I suggest:

If travelling NORTH on the A1M then take JUNCTION 78 (the next junction AFTER the airport exit, if travelling north)
signposted 'City (North) Gosforth'.
At the exit roundabout, Turn LEFT onto Kingston Park Road. Follow the road to it's end and a ROUNDABOUT, turn LEFT. Follow this road, (Brunton Lane) over speedbumps, traffic lights and Metro line to TESCOS.

If travelling SOUTH on the A1M then take JUNCTION 78 (the junction before the airport exit, if travelling south)
signposted 'Kingston Park, Fawdon'
At the exit roundabout Turn RIGHT onto Kingston Park Road. Follow the road to it's end and a ROUNDABOUT, turn LEFT. Follow this road, (Brunton Lane) over speedbumps, traffic lights, metro line to TESCOS.

I'm hoping that we won't be troubled by the traffic but the A1M Airport?Kingston Park exit may be busy as it leads to the GNR start about 3 miles into the city and you may find runner traffic clogging up that junction, so use JUNCTION 78 instead.
From that junction it's an easy run to TESCO carpark as outlined above.
