My youngest daughter was at the start and had our two Border Terriers with her (she was dog-sitting) - I asked her to take some photos for me at the start and look what I found . . . .
The briefing started on time and we were able to make a prompt start - brilliant - and then. . . . .
I was delighted that the Great North Run didn't impact on our run - even the A1M and the exits were fine - everyone was at the start well before 10am - thanks everyone - that allowed us to make a prompt start and then I had to take everyone opposite our house as I'd forgotten my mobile phone!

(Just after I'd told everyone my number was on the route sheets in case of problems

) First turn left NOT on the route sheet - what a start. :roll: Nevermind we got over that quickly enough and moved on.
We had to get to Alnwick as near to 11am as possible as the Hogs Head Inn had a busy Carvery to manage over lunchtime. We managed to get there a little late but at Alnwick Castle we had to take the opportunity offered by the empty layby - just enough room to get in all the Zeds with a bit of a squeeze. It's a great view of Alnwick castle but most folk were happy taking picture of all the Zeds

:lol:
Even with space and a large carpark it still takes quite a time to park up 17 Zeds - the Hog's Head made for an excellent stop and may be a useful starting point for future runs this far North on the A1. I'm not sure what Steph was laughing at :? (and of course, ahe's delighted I've posted this shot) but she did a great job jumping in and out of our Zed to keep folk on the right route and directing them into the right places - everywhere people drove up they'd find Steph waving them in and pointing out the way. She even went and got the Zed when I was handing out our keep-sakes for this years run (A Northumberland Flag sticker) - turned around and the Zed was there ready for the next part of the run - what a girl!
We headed out to Chillingham Castle from our first coffee stop and pretty quickly the group got split at an awkward exit point (with some innovative manoeuvres on the A1 I heard later

) With the aid of mobile phones and my willing helpers Chezsherman and Toe-side (thanks lads

) and a few others, I believe, we all met up again and later still, got back on the right road to Chillingham Castle where we had been given permission again to take photos at the front of the Castle (normally a no parking zone). A great location for a photo op. (Thanks Craig3.2 for sorting the parking so we could all get in)
We had been chasing time a little to beat the tide and the break up of the group had put us further back so we had to leave out part of the route close to the National Park and visiting Etal and Ford (perhaps another run some time) and head straight to Holy Island for the safe crossing time. There's always stress and anxiety when organising a run but we were close to the wire with our timings and we arrived at Holy Island at 1.25 when the safe crossing time ended at 1.45 . . . .yes even more to worry about :lol: But we made it and managed a few minutes in the car park on the Island before heading back. Hope someone has pictures of this part of the trip.
The fantastic views (and toilets) of the Barn at Beal overlooking Holy Island set us back even more and so we headed to the sensational Bamburgh a lot later than hoped for but we still had to take the 'Wyndings' along the coast to the golf club to return for the best coastal view of all - well worth the time. (Already seen a photo or two of that view in earlier posts - thanks folks

)
From there we headed straight to a very late lunch (2.30pm) at Seahouses where we found the parking chocablock! We all found a space eventually and had a lovely al-fresco lunch on the seats overlooking the harbour except for Nick and Lorraine - (I didn't see you otherwise we would have joined you in the café! (Apologies

)
We were so lucky with the weather again this year - terrific. Here we are all assembling before heading for the last part of the run - to Warkworth Castle and then our final Ice Cream stop. There's Chezsherman at the back again (thanks for doing that Craig - good shepherding again this year!

)
Morwick Farm Dairy is a great place for an ice cream and brought our run to a close with some heading home north and south on the A1 and 5 of us heading back on country lanes to the start - a terrific run back to end the day.
As has been said already, a brilliant day with wonderful people in a beautiful county in sensational cars - thanks to all for making the effort and taking part - we had a great day as well
