Non-traffic accident

Embarrassing as this is, I thought I would share a recent accident and see if there is solace to be had by way of me not being the only person something like this has happened to!

My Zed is normally locked away in the garage and we use a pillar nearest the passenger door to rest one of those sodding rotary clothes lines when not in use. So one day, in a hurry to get to something on a shelf at the bottom of the garage on this side, I breezed past the rotary drier, catching one of the loops of the line and turning in horror as it toppled in slow motion onto the door with a resounding dink. Needless to say, it left a very neat and unwanted dent on the otherwise spotless body (passenger door) and me in a seriously foul mood for the rest of the day.

£100 later, a contact who worked at Vauxhall, specialising in dent removal removed all traces of the event, thankfully. Moral of the story - don't be as dull as me and leave things like that which can come into unwanted contact with such a valuable asset as a Z4.

So, anyone else had a similarly self-imposed accident?

Cheers.

Years ago I knocked a rake off a hook in the garage ... Crashing onto my dad's 323 coupé, landing under the rear window impaling itself into the lip of the quarter :-0 I was too young to be anything other than scared!

Glad your zed is back to good already!

How about trying to drive into a car park in south of france forgetting about the 3 cycles on roof
Yep it ripped them clean off in the carriers mangling the forks, wheels & handlebars plus breaking my electric aerial ( car was a Mreg 200TE  )
Amazingly the car was barely scratched unlike my pride which was well & truly done in :x happy days :)

these accidents always go in slow motion lol, you can see whats happening and theres nothing you can do about it

Just finished with the restoration of my '65 TR4A, red in color. Was in the garage and went to get a sheet of OSB board leaning against the side wall. Must have pulled too hard and the sheets fell against the side of the car resulting in a good size fender dent so very noticable. Oh yeah, I was super mad which took a long time to get over. Fixed and all was better.

Reversed in to the garage with the passengers door unlatched, it swung open folded the edge of the door over, bu**ered the hinges and damaged the garage door frame for good measure - couldn't even blame Mrs Ewazix for that one

The garage sure is a dangerous place to keep your car safe!

some insurance companies put insurance up if you park in a garage for these reasons

That's a common occurrence and one reason I think cycle roof racks are a bad idea. Too many folk just forget they're there. A guy I know drove into his car port, panicked and reversed out dragging the bike onto his bonnet. :headbang:

How about a whole can of white matt paint spilt in your boot!!!!!!

I once left a small Canon camera on the top right of the boot of mrs b's car when it was open, so next to the seal. Forgot it was there, slammed the boot, bent the corner of the boot and destroyed a £200 camera

Worst thing was I was flying to Vegas for the first and only time the next day for a 5 day business jolly, and every one of my pics of this once-in-a-lifetime trip was taken on a feckin' Blackberry cos that's all I had :(

(And yes, I cold have bought one in duty free, but then I'd have had no money for drinking, gambling and dancing girls  )

Years ago, fitting a rally seat into my Mk1 Escort I was trying different positions of the seat before bolting it down permanently. I started the engine, depressed the clutch and put it gear to make sure the position was perfect. The seat then tipped backwards into the rear seats and the car set off down the road on it's own with me in the rear seat on my back. I didn't manage to grab the wheel and hit the brakes until the car had gone down the street for about 20yds. Luckily without hitting anything. The accident? I think I messed my self. :o

My best was cleaning a caravan. Was 6' up an 'A' step ladder leaning towards the roof.

Of course the ladder started to move away from the van, but in an magic instinctive shift of weight I managed to overcorrect and smash the ladder into the van. Put a crease right up the rear and my boot through the window...

Don't know what but I never got paid by my dad for the cleaning :(

Haven't done that, but lost a 4 pint carton of milk after something loose in the boot punctured it. I tell you, 4 pints of milk going off in a large estate car's boot carpet makes it smell like a Cardiff taxi after carrying a posse of vomiting uni students on a Friday night. I threw out the carpet in the end (and it was professionally cleaned. Twice)
