If I am looking for a spare wheel, 17" is the way I would have to go having the 3.0, so would the spec of the wheel be the same as a 5 series BMW?
17inch 135/80?
or am I looking for 3 series 17"?
Cheers.
So I came across your message and thought I'd answer a very old question in the hope someone can answer mine.
So standard Z4 is 225/40/r18 and 255/35/r18 for the staggered 18" set up. You can work out dimensions from these measurements. To cut a long story short I've done the measurements and they pretty much tally up perfectly with a few mm out. Negligible. This is for the set up you've suggested 135/80/r17. So it makes an ideal spare.
Secondly it may not always be necessary that a 3.0 needs to have 17" to clear the calliper. I think that 3.0i is okay (I know for sure because that's what I have). The 3.0si is the one with larger brakes, so larger calliper, so will require the 17" on these.
My question is for 16" space saver tyres. I've got a 115/90/r16 that I could use as my space saver. Only thing is that measurements don't tally up so perfectly and they don't do any other sizes similar. I'd have to opt for 135/90/r16. So increasing the width by 20mm would it cause issues?
Alternatively am I better sticking to the stock wheel and tyre (115/90/r16) even though the diameter between the 18's and the space saver has a difference in approx. 30mm? Or again is this negligible due to the fact it's only going to be used temporarily anyway?
Thoughts, comments and insight appreciated! Cheers.
