No power - battery is OK?!

Evening all!

Got myself a E89 however car has been delivered and the battery is flat (can't get access to the boot... well documented everywhere!)
I helpfully have another E89 (in bits - the new E89 is going to be the doner!) but can't seem to get any power to the new one to get the electronics up and running.

I attach a new battery using the red connector in the engine bay... and then the hazard lights go on, flickering very fast...

when I insert the key and press the start/stop button... we get a higher rate clicking noise?!

Any thoughts? I know the car previously would power up... (i've seen photos) but can't seem to get it to do it for me...

thoughts are appreciated :) EDIT: ....might it be something to do with using the wrong battery? i'm using the spare battery from my other E89 attached would i need to code that battery?!?

oh! I've checked - the battery voltage is perfect and if i put it on the other E89 it seems to power up normally...

I think maybe the problem is that you are putting a healthy 12v battery across a very discharged one (the existing one in the boot). I suspect its pulling a ton of current from the good battery and your system voltage is low. You may even cause some damage. Try putting a battery charger on the jump points instead and leaving it overnight. This should give you enough power to open the boot. Next thing I would be doing is putting a new battery in.

you can also try opening the boot it while the charger is on at once

I shut my boot lid by accident while the battery was disconnected, I attached jump leads to the positive and negative points under the bonnet this allowed enough power to light up the dash and operate the door locks, not start the car. I then was able to open the boot lid using the key fob and reconnect the battery.

Thanks guys!
Tomorrow I shall get a battery charger on to it! And leave it over night! Would make sense because the battery works fine when on the "good Z4" but there isn't a bad battery on the back of it so...

Sorry I'm a total noob taking on a monster challenge šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
I'll get back to you all with how I get on... And probably post my next problem tomorrow.... šŸ˜‚

So.... After a few days of fiddling I'm sorted! What a saga!

You guys were spot on, with the flat battery in the car, it required charging before i could get any of the electrics to work, so popped on a charger left for a bit and and as soon as i had enough power, had the boot popped open in no time... battery out; new battery in!

Dashboard lights up! Happy days!!!

Next problem... I had disconnected both batteries; and then accidentally closed the boot/trunk.... so wa'la - its locked...

Not sure if it was a flaw in the cable or just some other issue, but couldnt get power to the car at all!!

I then began the horrible challenge of getting into the boot with the boot shut... see attached photo!
When I opened the boot up through there, connected my jump leads from the good battery onto the two terminals; power again! boot open... and I won't be closing that again!

What a nightmare!... but could offer an alternative method of access for someone who needs to get into the boot with no power! :)

If you lock the boot one more time I’m coming round to remove the boot lid for you!
