no battery, doors are locked,....any way to get doors open"

I have access to a wrecked Z4 with some interior parts I need. No battery, and the seller wont allow me to attach a jumper battery.. Driver's window is down and I have tried pulling the inside door handle. The lock button moves up,....but the door does not unlock. Tried pulling up on the door lock button and the door will not unlock.

Suggestions?

Does he have keys? It should unlock with the normal key from outside if its an E85/86. Not sure about later cars.

As above, you need the key to unlock the door. Not certain, but I think you still need the key with a battery attached too.

Without the key, if you pull the interior handle once it should unlock it, then a second pull unlatches it.
What about the passenger door? You should be able to reach across through the drivers window.

If the car was locked from outside, you won't be able to unlock it from inside. BMW had this safety feature for years but I think the abandoned it some years ago.

I agree I think there is a deadlock mechanism

However there is always the possibility the cables are defective

May be worth getting the door card off to see if the mech can be operated by hand

That explains what I was thinking.

Being both intrigued and bored I went out to my daily 2.2 (04-plate). Wound down the window, opened the boot, locked the car with the key from outside, disconnected the battery and closed the boot. Reached in through the window. Pulled once, knob popped up. Pulled again and the door opened.
Repeated the whole excercise but this time locked the door with the key using the key in the lock.
Still opened ok using the inside handle.

So maybe there is a fault in the drivers door, which is why I suggested trying the passenger one.

I think I never tried it on mine. My 2001 e39 and our 2008 ex e60 had this double lock thing so I guessed all BMWs did.
