Nightmare - husband hitting the roof here!

Whatever you prayed for it worked
It didn't. I prayed for something completely different and she hasn't materialised!

He left the car, and today they phoned to say they had let it tick over for an hour and no sign of smoke or oil and "maybe it was just condensation". Went on and on re how honest they are and how much they wanted to help their customers but they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. I said yur own mechanic found fresh oil - he said well maybe it was just water. Husband went white and grim took the keys and we left. So I dono what to do next - he's had 3 heart attacks and a bypass already and I don't want this car to cause another one.
One odd thing I noticed though. We live up a steep cul de sac and the smell of burning oil inside the car is very noticeable when we come up the hill here. Does that suggest anything to anybody?

It suggests to me that yes it is leaking oil, as I'm pretty sure water doesn't burn like that.
I would say stuff the warranty and never go back!
Find a good indy: ask for recommendations on here. Go there and get it checked. If in doubt change that cover anyway.
Not sure if you've been following the thread by the chap with the coupe who's suspension bill was astronomical? Between a few of us on the forum we are sorting it at a fraction of the cost.
Maybe you'll be lucky and find suitable support too.

Oh not seen that thread ez, will look for it ta. I def think this is one of the best forums I've ever been on, and I'm on loads of forums :D You lot are always supportive and always rally round, I appreciate you all very much. This was his dream car and maybe his last one so I'd hate it to go to custard on him. The other thing is, if this is an oil leak- which we know it is- then it wil get worse and then they'll have to fix it anyway!

As long as hubby doesn't explode before then!! :?

ez Hubby says yes that makes sense and thanks. The problem (another one lol!) is this a very rural area and everybody sticks with the garage that their dad dealt with/that services their tractors/is run by the guy they played rugby with 40 years ago etc etc. I will ask around but it will take time and careful sifting

Why not suggest they monitor the oil level over a period of mileage?
That works too, good idea, will see what he thinks about it, ty xx
More a case of monitoring whats on the outside surely?
Sorry, I forgot, exactly where are you?
If you publicise that (at least a general area) then you may find a knowledgable forum member close by.

And if they happen to be a paramedic too then you're completely covered.

We're near Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders. :) Open to any help tyvm Z4 ers!
Is that anywhere near Perth?
If so, maybe Peter ([ref]B21[/ref]) can assist with finding a more helpful garage?

Nowhere near Perth. Monitoring the oil level will work surely, as it will lower if it is seeping out?

What would I know.
Since you all wanted independence I've torn those pages out of my atlas. :D

I think my point was that by the time you notice a drop in oil level the engine should be quite sticky.
Also, with no dipstick it is a tad harder to monitor.

He doesn't do much mileage in winter though, might take a long time to notice. He has found the virtual dipstick though.
We're 50 miles from Edinburgh and 10 miles from the border with.. erm.. that other place. Down south.

Inform the garage that you would like it in writing they have found no evidence of a leak and should the engine go tattie by, you expect them to honour the warranty.

Might make them do a more thorough inspection.

South is that shadowy place. That's beyond our borders. You must never go there, Simba.
