I'd have taken a Cayman over my Z every time if I could have found one of same vintage ,condition , history and miles for the same money ,no chance ever .
I think M prices are holding steady, but mileages are increasing. So essentially you pay the same now for a 60k car as you did last year for a 50k car.
Not sure if prices will go up, but doesn't look like they're coming down, until you hit around 70k miles. And we've all seen a few 100k models hovering around £10,000. Cheap for a sub 5s 0-60 motor

If you read enough forum stuff on any expensive marque then you'd always be put off . In that regard a a high end BMW is no different to a Porsche or a Jag ,they all have their weak spots. If you don't want any aggro then I'm afraid it has to be Japanese ,if you can get past the badge thing .

becuase the coupe was also out of my budget and I happened to find a really nice roadster at the right price ,so took the plunge . Actually I wasn't specifically looking for a tin top ,and had looked at Boxster S when I sold my 7 . Again a decent low milage 2006 or 07 Boxster S with a proper history is out of my league.
I've never driven a coupe so can't say how it compares in terms of handling but I would guess as you say it's lot stiffer with less scuttle ,but still Prob nowhere near as good as the Cayman or indeed a Boxster .
Having said all that Boxster and Cayman seem to be a lot more prevalent than an M ,coupe or roadster ,just check on PH .So you're right in terms of future residuals the safer bet might well be the BMW .

I was going to reply to your post with the same as above to be honest. The auto trader ones are £13.5k for a 98k miler. Then you're into £15k and above territory. From a quick glance on the app, at least.

I wouldnt entertain a pre 2009 car now....I have rolled the dice 3 times with 911's and have always come out of the smelling of roses,but you can only push your look so far..
The new Cayman is a seriously beautiful car...... It will be a while before i could afford one but i will have one,unless i have an F type..

Yes, a used F type or Cayman would be nice.
I honestly can't think what I will replace my Z with without dropping another 30k.
I think a 997 911 Turbo would suit my needs, but a lot of cash which I don't want to spend at the moment!

How twisty would that have to be ?
We have been Out amongst others over many A roads here In the high peak, poise and balance on fast sweeping bends and the boxster will edge it..
But getting out of the corner and between the bends the Z kills it...
Hands down ..
Maybe it's the lack of LSD and relying on that dodgy wheel braking system that Porsche have?

If it's wet and twisty then the Boxster definitely wins the races with equal driver ability . If you're a better driver then perhaps the Z might edge it .
