nfbr's 2007 Ruby Black Z4 Coupé! Blog/Build-Thread

Hi,

Question re your mid box bypass pipes - what length were they? Are you still finding it acceptable to drive daily? I'm keen to get a bit more noise again but not backbox chop levels!

Cheers

From memory they were 450mm long each in total.

As to how liveable it is, I've not looked back! The sound at idle and when pottering around casually/gently is absolutely no different.

You only really hear a difference when you are giving the car a little "extra".
I would say confidently that there is absolutely no drone at all!

Another video to show you how much you need this mod ;)

Unfortunately I don't have the same video with the stock exhaust system, but with the stock exhaust system it was a lot quieter had a 'lighter' tone to it.
The chances are if you're watching this on a Mobile device, tablet or laptop, your speakers will be hindering the sound somewhat. As would my recording only being done on an iPhone.

In person it sounds much better than stock, just not 'Boy Racer-ish', not intrusive in any way.

Ive heard some muffler deletes in person and they sound "Boy racer-ish", not sweet at all, I'm thinking of doing this modd, any chance we can get a sound clip of the car from behind? not inside the car

I could probably do with getting a 'Drive-away' video as it just isn't safe to stuff someone in the boot to hold my iPhone whilst I drive around.

I'll see what I can sort, but it's likely to be end of next week, early the following week at this point.

Well, It's been a while! I've been busy doing some bits with the house whilst the good weather is out including replacing a bannister rail with a glass block wall and generally enjoying the lovely weather (when we've had some) in the car, as well as doing a lot of the VW Shows working for Awesome GTI / Volkswagen Racing / APR UK Ltd.

The time has come for me to do an oil change of which the bits have already arrived!
- 7 Litres of Millers Oils 'Nanodrive' EE Longlife C3 (5w30) which is both BMW LL04 approved and also gets some fantastic reviews from many people within the tuning industry
- Mann HU816x Oil Filter - Mann filters make the Genuine BMW Filter, infact they even have their Name and Part number stamped on the genuine filter!
- Genuine BMW Sump Plug and Washer

I've also ordered up some 19" Alloy wheels and some 225/35/19 - 255/30/19 Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy2's
I'll get some photos up of the wheels once I've received them, the tyres are looking to take around approximately 7-10 business days to get here, by which point, I should finally have my new Tarox Discs and Pads too!

Enjoying your post , mods & maintenance  also good to see you endorse Millers products as they've long been a favourite oil of mine & i'm just putting together the fluids to change g/box , diff & engine oil using all Millers products

As much as I can get you for now! I wish I had a better microphone as the iPhone video just doesn't do it justice.

Wheels look nice, what make are they?

They are by a company called River RVR Wheels, imported by the guys who do 3SDM and a couple of other brands.
£550.00 a set seems to be the going rate for them, so they aren't major expensive either.

I think they'll probably be a stop gap until I find some 19" CH's or similar though.

Ah yes, I had a look at those online. Interested to see how they look when on the car. Are the rears not concave at all?

They are but the concave starts half way up the spoke rather than right at the edge of the rim.

You can see the difference in this picture: Front = Closest, Rear = Furthest. The front looks much 'flatter'

I'll probably put them on tomorrow as I need to get the original wheels cleaned up and listed on eBay properly.
Wanted to do it all in one go really when it was time to do the brakes, but it's no big deal really.

So I gave into temptation today I gave into temptation and mounted the wheels on to the car :)

I must say, the transformation has been absolutely staggering! I was first of all concerned that the Eibach Springs would not have been low enough, but after taking the car up and down the road to re-settle the springs, it looks spot on!

As my centre caps haven't yet arrived, I've photoshopped some on...

Sorry about the slightly over-processed photos, I was trying something new.
