Newbie with some questions

Hey guys,
I have got a new job and with it comes a company car. Due to this i am going to sell my current car and am looking for a weekend/fun car. I have always liked the look of the z4 and sat in one today and thought it was lovely. It will be second hand and I'm thinking about a budget of 10k. Due to this i would like i think a 2.5 or 3l one well specced i think. It will be a month or 2 till i can buy. What i wanted to know is
1. The coupe or convertible. I like them both what would the major difference in them both i.e. driving etc?
2. As I'm 28 (prob 29 when i get it) with 5 yrs no claims and no points would i get insured at a decent price for either the 2.5 or 3L? as I'm only looking at it for a weekend car
3. Are there any major things i would have to look out for when buying one of these?
4.Are they easy to work on? I like doing what i can on them or are quite a bit of the jobs dealers only
5.Any Northern Ireland members on here?
Thanks for all help guys

Welcome to the forum.

1. Roadster always ;) they were purpose built as roadsters and have great road holding
2. If you can afford running costs 3.0 is the one to go for. Coupe only came as 3.0 or 3.2
3. Plenty buyers guides on here, have a quick search and you'll get plenty tips
4. I don't do lots of work on my car, but if you're competent DIY, then it shouldn't be a prob.

Good luck finding your zed :)

Fuel, tyres, insurance are the main ones to think about. Road tax might be higher, but I can't remember :?

For your budget you should be able to pick up a tidy example. Have a thorough read of the forum FAQs, plenty of tips in there

1) For rigidity and looks theres only one option - A car with a roof, yes the coupe!
2) I'm a year younger than you, have less NCB and pay £680 for my 3.0 Coupe
3) check out the buyers guides as above
4) Not sure yet, not had mine long enough!
5) Yes but you may have to look for them! I believe there is a coupe for sale in the for sale section at the moment from over there though!

1. 93 million miles of headroom
1. Choice of roof up or roof down
1. Roadster looks cool
1. Did I mention the headroom?

Number plate has yet to be transferred so not going to be ready for a few weeks so could potentially work out well for us both. Please feel free to give me a call or drop me a message if interested.

If I get taken suddenly rich, I'm buying a white M coupe to sit next to the Alpina. :)

Tapatalking...

They'd just fight, and you know the Alpina would win

OP - bigosean's car is a beautiful example, IMO 3.0 is the way to go if it's a fun car, and of course it has to be a roadster

Actually, if I get taken suddenly rich (enough) it will be an E9x white M3 coupe with a carbon roof...

One can dream...
