This will be brilliant when finished...what a great conversion.

I dare say your gonna need a quick rack on that thing, it won't be in a straight line very often ;)
Yeh that's why I'm looking at MK1 Escort racks as you can get 2.2 quick rack, just for looking out the side windows :D

  Maybe you could get longer wrap around wipers for the side windows :driving:

Is it possi le to fit a faster rack to standard z4 without a lot of modifications? I always said that Z has a lot more end to end steering rotations than it should..

Major task as I finding out. There's a lot of setting up and fabrication involved , geometries will be another headache to solve.

2.2 would be my preferred route if possible as I've always loved very quick steering. If you have one in good order, please let me know.

I don't know how I've missed this thread!

Absolutely epic
You have some serious skills.

My son lives near Roslin. :)
I try my best, usually all customers cars. But I felt it's time I built something for myself, oh and I just happened to have a v10 tucked away.

Started to look at the gear linkage from the box to the lever. The new 6speed sits further back than originally so I'm busy shortening the alloy steady, also the link bar that ties the selector rod from the box to the gear lever. I've bought a Rogue Engineering quick shift to hopefully sort out the shift quality. The gear change really disappointed me when I first drove the car and was the first item to be purchased.b7639a6761449e92dbad30e73d327f5e_zpsff300b67.jpg

Another weekend working on the V10. The crossmember is now finished and Mk1 escort rack fitted and working. I say working that's not quite the case, still to tie up to column with custom joint.
I'm using a new Escort quick rack 2.2 with h/duty internals, 14mm ends and poly bushed mounts. The photos aren't to clearaeb00e5b9181c907f6fcfd4464035e29_zps35660f86.jpg33c8e68a745193b1bf098863838d9c24_zps6d5798b5.jpg

Late night Tuesday and a wee bit further on with the project. Managed to shorten the gear linkage stay bar thanks to Barry and then I modded the actual link bar to the box. This was shortened and I added a weight inside the tube to aid the shift quality. Then fitted a Rogue Engineering quick shift to the box.
Wow and I mean Wow, that has to be thee best 6speed shift I've ever used.
Next on the long to do list is the steering rack that arrived today. Using a MK1 Escort quick rack 2.2 turns just to keep up with the shifter. I'll post up some pics when I get some free time.

Out of interest, what anti roll bars have you found to fit the z4?!

I know an e46 one fits up front but what about the rear? Very wary of upgrading one but not the other...

Do Whiteline not list front and rear bars for the Z4? My mate runs the UK division of Whiteline he dropped of a front bar and said they have a rear to match.
The problem I have is the V10 is totally different at the front of the engine and standard layout doesn't work. What will is a 350Z front bar with a fair amount of work mind you. It's a monster diameter of 32mm, so I'll need to run uprated rear also.

Quick rack now in, just sorting out column linkage. Theres a wonderful selection of components from old school motors to tie up with the z4 column, group 4 knuckles, escort splined shaft, sierra knuckle, rose joint and a wee bit of bmw.0295e981e3b6d403e4ddf88492516aa9_zps45f78a23.jpg318a6df74a7c1b077247c92bb45a5631_zps5912e56d.jpg
Hopefully I should have steering this weekend, if all goes to plan.
Need to start looking at the rear bumper, I need to fit it prior to sending motor of for custom exhaust.a04250d44002a1977d76e156aaad4b4b_zps04d6df53.jpg

After all that the fitting a rear bumper you'll be able to do one handed... And if you really want to show off using only your thumb and index finger
