Newbie with a serious tuning disorder.

That looks right at home there!

Stupid question but in those last pics whats keeping the engine in place? I cant see a trolley on the bottom so can only presume it on the engine mounts, so what allows you to move it about if its mounted?

That's an earlier photo when the motor was sitting on blocks and gearbox mounted in factory position. I want to pull the motor further back to see if a better fit.

Yeh I'm near Edinburgh, so not a problem. Probably see a few other projects I've put together, if timed correctly you may see a very special RB320 impreza with potentially 1000bhp. Only running 1.6 bar of boost at present around 800bhp, a real handful.

Seriously mate I'm loving this! How much would you actually charge someone to do all this for them? Including parts? Just incase someone ever wanted to fit one to their car and get you to fit it while they were away for 4 months.....are we talking 8-10k?

Rough parts bill would see £5000 for motor, rare 6speed £1000, tornado2 ecu and harness mods £2000, custom exhaust £1000 and modifications to whatever probably £1000. So Looking at a minimum of 10k on parts alone, labour who knows? There could be somewhere around 100hrs of labour, that would involve all the developing and fabricating of parts to suit the build. This is only a guess mind you. I'll probably know once I've completed the build.

Wow! I can't wait to see it sit and work.
How will you cope with the ECU and other electronics? Is it possiblle to put m5 ecu into the Z and have all the electronic gizmos working properly?

I think Stevie said at the start that the ECU is swapped out for a custom one.

I'm up Edinburgh today working so no time for a looksee :(

I'm hoping to use a ecu from Specialist components called Tornado2. It can control everything required for the V10, dual vanos, fly by wire throttle, 10 injectors, 10 coils, knock control and loads more features. It comes with the BMW map so no issues for start up.

A wee up date on progress. I've been busy with fabricating mounts for the engine and box. I started by positioning the engine and box which seemed to take for ever, but once fabricated it tied the box and engine from moving back and forward. The set position was chosen as it requires less mods and seems to work with all the other components ie steering rack, engine mounts, sump oh and the bonnet needs to shut. A couple of pics of the gearbox mount.ad185daf3ce1f500936bbec8d0bab219_zpsfcfd094a.jpgb8a3e90336d6749cc103fa68c433725b_zpsf36c305e.jpg
I've still to finish the mounts, dress up and powder coat the items.

The engine mounts were a bit of a head scratcher, but after a brain wave from my mate Barry ( who incidentally is another petrol head into his MK1 Escorts) came up with the idea of using heavy duty Escort mounts as there easy to get and very strong. And a few pics of how the motor looks in its natural habitat.12c7e51039ed36331e5db2fbfa7df938_zps33f084e7.jpg62440d153353ad960991a3cfc875bbfb_zpsbdf0687a.jpg
And the best bit the bonnet actually closes with very little mods.e28a32b96552a77dc2837540968120d1_zps35ce8cc8.jpg
