Hey all,

First things first... Just want to introduce myself here and let you all know that I am awaiting my first ever BMW and my first ever Z4 this Friday!

It will be my first ever sports car and my first convertible - after reading reviews on the internet I can be rest assured I have purchased a spectacular sports car!

The car I have purchased is a 2005 2.0i Roadster - I have decided with the smaller engine to help save my insurance costs. I am aware this is an older model, however with 45000 on the clock it was a complete bargain at the price I paid!! My previous cars have been.... Vauxhall Corsa (L Reg)... Peugeot 106.... VW Polo... Vauxhall Astra... and an Audi A4... due to a change in my circumstances, I have decided to go for a cheaper car and saw a Z4 advertised on Auto Trader and purchased!

I have a question on something the dealer had told me and wanted to know whether or not it is true..

When I went to view the car, he mentioned something about an airbag light. He said that the airbag is completely fine however this is a known fault with Z4's... and at this moment in time, there is no fix to it... He basically said that I will have to drive around with the light on the dashboard but assured me that there isnt a problem with the airbag itself... is this correct?

Also, the car itself comes with black leather and because this is a used car, I couldnt really be fussy... however, is it possible to completely change the interior of the car? I wanted the kind of Oregon Red Leather that BMW currently offer. If so, how much would this cost (a rough estimate) and does anyone know of someone near the Manchester area that can do this?

Thanks all!!

Heres a picture of the car btw...

Hi and welcome to the friendliest forum of all.

The airbag thing is a bit of a lie, as the system does not work while the light is on. On the other hand, the cause can be a common fault - the passenger mat. Have it checked by the stealers before the purchase, no need to economise on your safety.

If you're doing the interior, chances are you'll trip the light, if it's just the fault light on, it can be coded with software, you might be lucky and find a forum member who's willing to help. We are a friendly bunch.

Yes interiors can be changed, I replaced mine.... You'll be lucky to find a red interior though, a really popular colour

Welcome to the forum :driving:

welcome mate & nice colour combo .
airbag light will need attention
seats/trim can be swapped , just look out on ebay or in forum for sale section.
you may want to go for some rear spacers on the alloys ? they appear to "sit in " a little & wonder if they are from a different bmw ?
nothing major & easily sorted .
enjoy the buzz when you get it

Thanks for the quick responses!

I basically went to view the car and he assured me that there is nothing wrong with the airbag and that its very common among BMW Z4's. I have no idea how he came across this information however I'll give him a little text message now and ask

I hope hes not lying to me - http://www.fostermotoringsolutions.com is the guy I am making the purchase from.

A mate of mine has just spotted that they may be Z3 wheels attached to my Z4?!?

I would be looking to change them anyway - at the moment, there are 16" wheels attached to the car. Does anyone have an idea of how big I can go?

They are the same as my winters! They are from a Z4. You can go upto 20's I think but most people go for a max of 19's althought the biggest that came standard were 18's

Hello & welcome to soft top motoring!

Your motor looks lovely from the photo & enjoy picking it up & have fun :driving:

If it's "a common fault", it's either the mat or the light has been triggered by tampering with the battery on - it should be an easy fix then. It would be far more profitable for the seller to have it fixed rather than showing it to a prospective buyer and shrugging it off as a "common fault". Maybe that's the Pole in me, or in other words, the guy who has seen too many badly repaired German autobahn wrecks, but I would exercise extreme caution here. Take it to the stealers and have it diagnosed.

I hope everything turns out all right! The Zed looks good and you're already catching the modding bug, as it seems :)

Hi and welcome. The airbag light will be an MOT failure so it's important to get this fixed, but make sure they don't just take the bulb out. It must come of briefly when starting the car.

Just spoken to the guy and he said that it was the MOT station said that the airbag was OK and it passed the MOT? He will however, get a second opinion.

And yes, the mod bug has hit me. I haven't even got the car yet lol
