Theres about three to four hundred Alpina versions around Europe (don't quote me on this) so finding one will be much harder than a normal Z4.
:D

370 were produced in total actually, so you are right

Alpina! There's a lovely Red one for sale on pistonheads :D

That's the one I looked at today.. Seller is a great guy however the car is not up to my standards. To be fair the guy is trying to keep the price down but I would not say its in "mint" condition. Far from it in fact.

Anyone who would like any info please PM me as I don't want to upset anyone :)

And there's me thinking i was the only one on here under 30 :P

I'm also in the under thirties club (23)

Insurance is a bit heavier on the Alpina but Esure did me a decent quote as a lot of places didn't even know what an Alpina was so couldn't insure me.

So what about the grey one on Piston Heads - too expensive??

Dropped the guy a mail:)

It is a little expensive as if I decide to stretch to that money then I would just buy a 996 Carrera.

Also seems slightly on the high side for price considering sytners just sold an 05 Lux in black for £17k with 20k on the clock and a years warranty etc.

Oh god!

Now I am starting to find Z4M's for sub £20k!

Going to test drive one tomorrow now :D Just to make the decision even harder!

Just tusch test them all and the one that fits, buy it. Just don't fall in love with it before you negotiate the price! :D

this has a nice spec

Lol, started off looking at 2lite Z4's then it jut escalated to getting an Alpina over the course of a few months.

Remember running costs of the M will be a bit higher than the Alpina or 3.0litre :)

Alpina for sure.

Had mine for more than 3 years now - I've never kept a car for that long before! See very few of them although strangely when I do spot one its not very far from my flat! Lux versions are fantastically specced. Superb torque, never left wanting for power. But it can also be quite frugal - used to get average 30mpg commuting to work in it. Wouldn't have said the maintenance costs are any more than a 3-litre, depends what goes wrong I suppose. Nothing has been wrong with mine other than the std Z4 rear coils, other than that its been standard wear and tear items only. Running costs probably more than the 3-litre but less than the Ms. Went through tyres pretty quickly when I first got the car but visits from the tyre-guy seem less frequent these days. The Michelins are expensive but only about the same as RFTs that would be on the 3 as standard. Seems to go through a bit of oil but not to any great expense.

I got lucky as the exact spec of car with colour-combo I wanted came up soon after I started looking owned by a proper enthusiast so that was that (the cherry on top, as if it needed one, was a nice non-age numberplate). Imagine it can be difficult without such luck though so going for a newer 3-litre would give more options. Also the newer car would give you the facelift items like the clear indicators and rear lights etc. But this is a bit academic with the new Z4 coming out anyway.

Good hunting.

There are a few of us (27 here) we spend our time making the old people feel older

29, today... nearly not under 30 :D

To OP, get the one that tickles your fancy the most! I rekon the Alpina is the best all-round compromise if you want a Z4... good residuals, uber rare, non-M costs, but not stock lower BMW either, and enough power for the roads next to the MZ4, and a good load more torque than even the Si 3.0...

All said and done, if I upgrade it'll probably be to an Alpina one... an MZ4 would be nice but the costs just make me cringe. If I was a track fiend it'd make sense, but just for the road it seems excessive next to a supercharger or 3.4 to give a normal Z4 a bit of an extra kick :D
