new z4 :)

Welcome!

My 6 month old 20i gives around 34 mpg in a fairly standard mix of town and cruising. It did seem lower initially. I had it from zero miles, now done just over 3000.

Have you tried zeroing the mpg indicator and see what you get on a steady cruise?

The only thing I notice - any help appreciated - is a stiff gear box. That is. It won't slide into second like it should !!! Any thoughts ?

I get 28mpg on my 2.0. About 4.5k on the clock now. Main use is a predominantly extra urban 8 mile commute. I expected a bit more tbh.

I don't know how long engines take to free up fully- according to the 'puter my average on my 23i is around 34. On a long trip I can get it up to 37 or so. I'd expect the 20i to do better than that.
My to and from work trip is ~14 miles on a NSL SC (but generally trundling at 30-40 because of all the other humans) interspersed with some roundabouts and traffic lights each end.

I have had two manual BMW's; one a Z4, albeit the last model. Both had difficult gearboxes - they were ok if you took your time between changes but were not boxes to be rushed. I think it is just BMW's way. Try pausing ever so slightly when it comes out of the gear before putting in the next gear. It was always 1-2 for me with both cars.

I love the colour of you car btw ... but then I would :D

Yea that's alpine white. I would have gone black myself. But. My previous cars have been dark and they just highlight scratches [emoji45]

Lovely car and a great colour combination. I know what you mean regarding Black (!) and White is great for not having to pay too much attention to it. Just keep it clean.

My other halves sister has a white 2.0 and over christmas I got the chance to give it a good detail. The paint is so bright and so flat that it's very hard to see defects (have to look in the right light and at the right angle). Additionally there's very little point spending a fortune on expensive waxes as again it's very hard to see the impact they make. In the end I coated it with R222 and it looked stunning.

Well, we bought the identical model to yours in May last year, only in black, and whilst it has been treated with kindness for its first 2,500 miles and is mainly driven by wife, the computer has shown an mpg ranging from 37.4 to 41 throughout that period.
Either our computer readout is suspect or you need a stronger spring on your accelerator pedal. :)

Welcome to the forum.........in the 3 months that I've owned my 35i, I've not bettered 16.9mpg and I've not got a heavy right boot. :-(

Holy crap I've joined the Prius forums !!!

No, its clearly no Toyota judging by the number of times it's been back to the dealers with electrical gremlins, another one of which is probably responsible for the impressive mpg.

Hey and welcome!

I've had my 35i for around a month and the gearbox feels much smoother than when I first picked it up. It was just as you described, stiff into second, but has started to loosen up the more I drive! Enjoy it!

Yea. 2nd is really tight. Seems to be s bit of a whine from it too. Just did 1000 miles woo hoo the 2.0 isn't bad for power at all.

HI Dave,

And welcome, to the forum.

You mentioned using an TMP box, have you though about the JB4 as it has more functionality?

Had mine on for 6,000 miles and not an issue - also I love the sweeping dials on startup.
