Recently got a Contour HD 1080p video cam and took it for a short test drive in a rain storm... :driving:

It's actually much better played from the original mov file but each minute at 1080p is about 30mb. Full sun would help but haven't seen that since last Thursday... :(

looking good! Massively jealous of your roads; so smooth and sweeping. Making me question why I live in Manchester :|

What sort of mount are you using for the camera? I want to do a few driving videos, was thinking of attaching my gorillapod to the roll bars somehow, but don't trust it not to fall off!

cool

does your car not have a radio or cd player hehe
I wanted to see how much engine sound would be picked up at the default setting. Not much. Sound levels are set via software with the camera connected to the computer so will be making some adjustment.

The mount below is sold as an accessory and works really well....

Nice quality and nice roads! Driving around the open roads near me over the weekend makes me wonder if I should have bought an X5/X6 instead of a Z4!! :o

Prefer the position (and roads  ) of the first video - just a shame about the juddering and rattles.

Is there somewhere else back there that will make a sturdy mount?

Yeah, I think there's a bit more feel to the driving when you can see the cabin - I'll have to have a play and see if I can find somewhere better. I've tried it on the rear windscreen before but that rattles too much. The panels between the roll hoops have a coating on them which stops the sucker from sticking which is a bit annoying.

Think I'll have to get a bit more creative...

Siftah, nice videos! Both pretty good but the first one would be good to see again with the roof down. You guys have a bit of rain today? Sun shining all afternoon up here today! :P

Did I spot a bit of left foot braking...?

I did another video today without the rain and after making some adjustments to audio...

The sound quality is not very good but that is a known weakness with this camera. However, video quality is excellent.

The first one I took on Friday, was mostly nice but we did have a spot of rain, second one was Saturday when it rained off and on. It's been nice today but I've not been out :(

You were watching closely to spot that!

Bizarre, I didn't even know I'd done that - but yes it does look like I do just before going into the left hander before the uphill bit. Quite strange that, if you asked me I'd have said that I don't left foot brake but I clearly do :) Thinking about it, I do often cover the brake pedal with my left foot, I think that's something I picked up from the IAM training though I don't remember if/why I was ever taught it.

I used to drive that road every day from Manchester to Huddersfield so I know it fairly well, that corner in particular is quite tight but good fun. It's generally quite a scenic drive too, much better than the motorway! :)

Nice! Fantastic scenery and loved the wooden bridge. :D

"Video of the month" competition...?

It is, great quality video! I'm tempted to pick up a cheap HD camera as my Panasonic is good but it stops recording after ~8 minutes, which is quite annoying :(

I'm insanely jealous of those silky smooth roads you have, in the UK driving fast is not so much about car control as about avoiding the poor road surface and knowing where the grip is available and which bits of tarmac are going to upset the balance of the car/bike.

(It's even worse on a motorbike, you can't even begin to explore it's performance envelope with the quality of tarmac we have here)

I'm desperately wanting to get away from the UK this summer for a few weeks in Europe, (either on the car or bike), enjoying some of the better Spanish or French mountain roads will be heavenly.

Heck, I wouldn't need to find a better mounting spot for the camera if the roads were smoother! :)
