New TopGear tonight 8pm BBC2

Just something wrong about the show. I gave it a second try. Its saving grace is how good it looks, the film crew really are polishing a turd though.

On the flip side Clarkson has a huge challenge trying very hard not to be Top Gear.. is that even possible for him?

4.52 in and Chris Evans is annoying me a lot less than last week at least :P Doesn't see like he's being as irritatingly try hard as in the first.

Agree they owe a hell of a lot of credit to their editing team.

edit. then it went to the studio and I remembered just how much he irritates me. it was good while it lasted

I suspect it took the original series a while to find its feet, and I thought E2 was better.

CE is my least favourite presenter on the show, oh the irony since he is the main one.

I like Extra gear still, thats a great addition to the show.

And I still turn over when they have 'A star in a Car'. Never liked it the first time round.

I only watch for the cars I couldn't care who presents it, the fact topgear is still running and Clarkson,Hammond and May are doing another car show for amazon is surely just a bonus. More cars, more entertainment. I suppose its win win for car lovers.

Is he crumbling ?

Reminds me of when he went off the rails last time. Wasn't he pictured getting absolutely hammered everyday with then wife Billie Piper?

Edit - change from pictures to pictured

Murder by media …

I would hate to be in his position with the media looking for blood

He craves the fame & fortune & no sympathy from me , if you don't want shooting at don't stick your head over the parapet

Too many pages to read so I don't know what you guys have been discussing with such fervour but personally I don't think Evans is that bad and I actually liked the 2nd episode! All presenters need to work on their chemistry though..

Evans is brutal.
I find Le Blanc is sometimes quite funny (typically when its clearly unscripted)

I only managed 28mins of the first show in one sitting had to revisit it over the rest of the week to watch it all and I got up to the stars in rally cars thing (this segment is one of the most cringe inducing things I have ever seen especially the intro part) this time and havent had the patience to watch any more of it. I doubt I will even look at ep3.

The sound and more so the camera work certainly improved in ep2 but Evans is about as funny as an aids diagnosis and that permeates through the whole thing dragging it down like a lead ball in the water. RIP Top Gear

Well I managed E2 with a good dose of fast forward.
Certainly had to bring the big features out early with the crossover feature that would have made a special in old TG...

Agree above that Evans is dragging it down. Hope, but unlikely he steps aside soon or at least stops shouting and so falsely drumming up enthusiasm.

I see elsewhere that non iplayer audience is just 2.4m - woeful for a world top selling show in its home country

+1

On the drumming up enthusiasm point, has anyone else noticed they are heavily using a laugh track in the "studio"? If you watch the audience when they are "laughing" very few actually appear to be, they also seem to laugh the EXACT SAME on multiple occasions, me thinks they had to cover up the sound of the cricket in the room! :poke:

Rome wasn't built in a day. And Top Gear with Clarkson and co took a few years to come into its final, shouty, POWERRRR-y form.. Give them a chance i think!

Have a look on YouTube and have a look at how entertaining the old three presenters were!

Then look again at the new show.

Weirdly I have been doing just this, I was watching some compilation videos of the old top gear laughing my head off but watching the new ones at best a few chuckles :(

It's been said before I know but the old three were just three pals in a pub chewing the fat and taking the pee out of each other and making it look more or less unscripted .
