New to the forum - Z4 just purchased - now with pics

Hello z4-forum,

I've been a lurker on here for a while, and recently signed up for an actual account... and this is my first post! There are a few of you that I know from other BMW and motoring websites actually :)

Anyway, I have just bought a Z4 3.0si roadster as a 2nd car / for fun, nice weather days and all that.

I pick it up this weekend so have no decent pics to share as yet. Spec wise, it's alright, not full spec with all the toys, but I was more after getting the engine, sports seats etc and retrofitting whatever else later.

So.... questions!

1) - It doesn't have xenons. What are my options? I've seen the usual HID kits (bulbs and ballasts) and then full on replacement headlights with halos built in too. Any links to preferred parts or anything?
2) - rims / tyres. It comes with 18s and run flats. The run flats are 100% going asap. I'm likely to go down the possibly boring route of CSL (reps) but they suit the car to a tee. 18s or 19s is my question to you all in terms of performance and ride quality.
3) - bluetooth - what is the best option to retrofit this?

Thanks all, and pics when I get the thing :)

19" rims look nice but they do harm the ride. Unless you really want them go for 18's

BT, best bet is probably a parrot kit, which you can integrate into the steering wheel controls and hide to fairly OEM feel. Other option a Dension which can give both BT and iPhone/iPod/USB integration as well.

Welcome mate,

I had the same reservations as you when considering an HID upgrade. I looked at doing an OEM upgrade but the cost was just really prohibitive. In the end I got a canbus kit from HIDs Direct and it was great, really easy to fit (there is a guide on this forum) http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=56909

You could retrofit the OEM BT as well but again I think the cost will be a lot and parts hard to find.

I would agree with srhutch - dont go for 19s there are so many great 18 designs that look great on the E85 (I had 224s (the z4m wheels) on mine because the offsets on the back really filled out the arches without using spacers).

Hope that helps

Welcome, can't help you with the mods but a word of warning, get them pictures posted soon as possible or the picture police will be on your case reading you the riot act :rtfm: :police:

Very wise advice from Stu Boy! :D

Oh, and welcome!

Apologies for jumping in :D do either/both of these kits integrate so that songs etc come up on the sat nav screen? And also allow skipping of songs through the head unit?

I have a 2003 3.0 auto with sat nav.

Bit of a newbie myself and would love to be able to play my music without burning off a million cd's

I had all the bits once to retrofit OEM BT, but it would be expensive and difficult to get all the parts, especially the loom.

Thanks all for the warm welcome :)

I'm really excited about picking this car up lol, patience isn't something I have much of clearly!

My daily / main car is a BMW X6 and I've owned a few other beemers, 3x E46's (318i, 328ci and 320cd), 1x E83 X3 2.5 and my favourite car an E92 335i Msport. The Z4 will be my first ever 2 seater / drop top. That'll go down nicely in the scottish weather no doubt.... lol.

My old 335i - miss this one.

Pics of Z4 asap!!!

Welcome along, I also have a 3.0si and my only option is cupholders - though I've added the wind deflector too. An HID kit is a worthwhile upgrade which I did for my first winter and it's been through 3 MoTs with them, mine was from HIDs Direct too. I've kept my MV2 18s but switched to non-runflat tyres almost straight away, much better :).

Whereabouts in Scotland are you? I've got the hardtop on this time of year!

Just along the road from you actually in Edinburgh!

Picked up the Z4 on Saturday. Some mission though.... grabbed it from near Bristol, but the flight from Edinburgh to Bristol got diverted to Cardiff due to snow. Then an interesting drive back to Edinburgh in some pretty poor weather lol.

Also bumped into another Z4 owner within about 10mins of buying the car. I was parked in a subway sandwiches carpark, where the pics below were taken, and a guy that worked there had a 2004 silver Z4, he came over to speak to me about it which was nice. A good start to being a Z4 owner that was lol :)

Anyway, 2006 3.0 Si (265bhp model).

60k on clock, full bmw service history, seems overall in good nick, hood seems to have been very well looked after. Dead chuffed with it for the price.

Has full electric, heated seats, Rain sensors and auto headlights, parking sensors. Think everything else is standard.

Hi and welcome. Nice Zed! Not usually a fan of red seats but those are a classy looking burgundy colour rather than the usual kiddies ketchup red. Enjoy! :driving:

Nice looking Zed - those seats are a great colour!
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Nice colour combination, looks good 8). Has a few optional extras, parking sensors, wind deflector, black dash, heated seats and the steering wheel controls so nicely spec'd too. I'm usually in Edinburgh a couple of times a week, fortunately don't have to commute in anymore though!

Good looking Zed. That leather colour is called "Amarone" and it's niiiice.

Are you sure? You don't find many (any?) 3.0si's without Xenons and you've got the washer covers, which is a clue. One way to tell (if it isn't immediately obvious when you turn them on) is that Xenon-equipped cars don't have a headlight adjustment wheel to the right of the steering column.

Headlight washers are standard on a 3.0si, and you can see the manual light adjustment wheel in the pictures. Mine doesn't have Xenons either but the bulb kits are a decent upgrade.
