I have removed the pop up screen from the dashboard and ordered an android tablet to fit in its place dismantling it was ok but was wondering if anyone knows if i will still be able to have the open and close on ignition function even tho I have an aftermarket stereo.

I am going to continue my search for the answers but thanks if you have answers :)

Cheers

Jon

Hi Jon, Welcome - I did this http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=56746 - so yes, you can easily emulate all of the original functionality of the screen with an Arduino.

and........ favourited! This would have been well useful when i dismantled the screen housing :)

The android pc is going to be a 6" Phone/tablet (Phablet.. I dislike that word) Which will have a sim card in it it will have my music on it gps and so on. I have also ordered the OBD USB-OTG cable so I can modify comfort options get diagnostic read outs and view running data and sensor read outs I have a few other plans for it but will see if they work first :)

Dan I am off to work and will read your thread when I am there but I am imagining I am going to have a problem powering the phone and using USB-OTG at the same time will work it out but not sure if i'll need a manual switch in the cabin to switch between data read out and charging and it looks at first glance like the inbuilt ignition based motor might not work but will read properly at lunch.

Cheers

I had the CDV removed from my 3.0si when I owned it.

The first time I drove it afterwards there was no question that clutch action was a lot better. Trouble is, I very quickly forgot that feeling so you could say it wasn't worth the bother.

:) I can't see any negative comments about doing it bar a few that it's unnecessary. I'm ok with that if there's even a 1% chance I may have a more calculable clutch engage time

Bear in mind that I didn't have navigation to begin with - so none of the wiring etc. I have a theory that the original motor etc might still work and that you simply need to replace the LCD with the phablet (sorry). I am not sure if the remainder of the headunit will work without the screen - but it would be interesting to find out.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions - there are also a couple of other members that have done similar and developed significantly better code for the Arduino etc.

Good luck!
