Hi Guys

Just bought a 06 Z4MR with 64k on the clock and have so many questions :) The car is absolutely amazing upgraded from a 53 plate 2.5 Z4R and its a completely different car can't believe the difference.

A poor photo of it :)

Thinking about it i'll browse the forum a bit more and see if there are the answers I need and then ask tomorrow :)

Would be interested to know if there is a Z4M owner in the Cardiff area who knows alot more than I do, that would fancy looking at it for a beer or two and see if theres anything that needs attention.

Cheers

Jon

Welcome to the forum. Nice Colour.

There's a pretty active Group of zeds around South wales and Bristol Area. Hopeful catch you at a meet in the future.

A 2.5 to an M.... You are going to have soooooooo much fun :driving:

Lovely motor, welcome

What do your questions relate to? Sure we can help with some of 'em without a physical inspection...
And welcome.

Hi guys

Thanks for the welcome :) I was considering the TTRS when i had the Z4 which is probably why I didn't join the forum sooner but so glad i went Z4M

The questions I have were originally about the clutch delay valve as it is taking me a while to get used to the clutch which I have decided to remove as although some people haven't seen improvement no one has seen any negatives from removing it

Does anyone know if the spoiler on the car was factory fitted as an option?

A small brake question, I have a droning noise under heavy breaking around 40 miles an hour that my searching hasn't found a solution for tho the brakes are amazing.

I have removed the pop up screen from the dashboard and ordered an android tablet to fit in its place dismantling it was ok but was wondering if anyone knows if i will still be able to have the open and close on ignition function even tho I have an aftermarket stereo.

I am going to continue my search for the answers but thanks if you have answers :)

Cheers

Jon

Be interested to hear what you're finding different between the ///M and your previous Zed - keep posting!

Good choice, I also came from a 3.0 to an M and its a great change! There are some quirks to the M though which I had same as you but found mostly they are normal!

To answer your question about brakes the groaning is normal as they are drilled discs so nothing to worry about there. Let us know how the CDV delete goes as I'm tempted by this also.

Hi and welcome. Your Z4M looks great. Really do love that colour

Having myself being new to M ownership you will love it more every time you drive it. Enjoy!

Very interesting mod. Keep us updated as I am intrigued.

I have had the M for a week and the last two days I have being getting the Z4 prepped for sale really happy with her

I can't believe how different the cars are.. I thought when I went to test drive the M that it would be like my Z4 but with an M engine (Which was enough to want it) The car feels bigger which I imagine is an illusion possibly from the bigger steering wheel and the seats hugging more. The M is fast but you almost get used to it really quickly, I more realised how fast the M was when I got back into the Z4 and it felt half as good as I remembered.

The steering makes so much difference the Z4 does now going back feel disconnected and overly light. I guess the overall feeling is the M has made the Z4 feel more like a normal car. One that was made for mass production where as the M feels really considered, and driving it gives a really nice special feeling.

Dead right the M always feels bigger than the Std Z, not sure why i think its the added weight in the front and the meatier clutch.

I thought I was the only one! I had a 3.0 coupe before and the M feels a lot bigger. Can't imagine why really.

It looks bigger too - the ridged bonnet, the way the front bumper goes outwards rather than inwards like the facelift (check out the deeper 'nostrils' where the grilles are), and I'm pretty sure the standard ride height is slightly higher, both because of and to cope with the slightly higher profile tyres. I think it looks wider at the back as well... It's not, but the quad exhaust gives more purpose.

I can vouch for that as well - odd . My M Roadster feels bigger compared to my 3.0 Coupe. I was also always looking for a better seating position in the Coupe were i don't anymore.

Chaps can I add a few more questions to the original post.

I don't want my 'M' to be a 'garage queen', but by the same token She will not be a daily drive over the coming winter months.

The car will be garaged, unlocked, & parked in neutral, with the handbrake off. (Garage is alarmed)

I intend to take her out for a run on a dry mild day (If we get any) to ensure the tyres are rotated and no flat spots develop.

Is that about it fellas? or does anyone remove the battery leads.

Forgive my ignorance, but if the alarm is not activated will that prevent any potential drain on the battery.

Is the removal of the battery lead a big no no on the M?

Finally, any more tips, observations, on winter inactivity?

TA

I had the CDV removed from my 3.0si when I owned it.

The first time I drove it afterwards there was no question that clutch action was a lot better. Trouble is, I very quickly forgot that feeling so you could say it wasn't worth the bother.
