Hey

Been looking round for a couple months for a z4 so figured this would be the best place to get decent advice!

Previous car was a lupo GTI. Hopefully the pic's below work...

Will be looking to make a few changes when I get the z4 :)

This is the car i'm looking at:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4-roadster/bmw-z4-2-5i-roadster-px-welcome/5237871?v=b

Can any give advice on whether the price is reasonable, what to look out for when i go to view it?

I'll have a look round on the forum for general issues to look out for but usually when i do this i just hear horror stories haha.

Cheers!!
Pete

Nice looking car buddy at good money for a trader.

It's possibly the light on the silver but that front wing seems a different shade??

Very tidy though and low mileage if that wing is all good and it's just the light.

This car is identical spec and year to mine, I bought mine last year with slightly lower mileage, also bought it in West Lothian. I will drop you a PM.

Hi and welcome.

Z4 looks good to me. I cannot see any colour difference in the wing - I think i's just the light.

Hope to be able to congratulate you on Zed ownership soon!

Yeah I thought that too but I reckon it's the lighting. Not gonna lie though I'm colour blind so not the best judge!

Cheers buddy. Going to see it tomorrow with a couple people so hopefully it's just the light :)
Cheers for the welcome!

Has anyone got any tips of what to look out for in a zed this age?

I'm probably being completely daft but when I send a pm it sits in my outbox and not in sent messages as if it never sent? Is this because I'm new to the forum and I need to get my post count up?

Also, I'll be looking to get air ride for the zed but I'm struggling to find any retailers. Has anyone had any experience with bagging the zed?

I'll start a new thread if this is getting off topic :)

PM's will sit in out box until recipient reads them - only then do they go into the sent mail

Beetlegav's your man - he's got an air suspension thingy going on.

Welcome btw :) Zed looks good - heated electric seats, and its got the OEM wind deflector too

To be truthful Pete.

Take it for a spin, listen out for any rattles, knocking etc.....
Get the reg no and put into here to check/verify the mileage and to see what it's failed on, if anything in the past https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/?_ga=1.124112771.882939069.1458221226

Check the stated FSH and what Inspections to date have been done. Ask if they have a current HPI certificate for it, if not, ask them for one, saves you spending money getting one.

It does say premium tyres fitted, check them out, are they actually premium tyres with decent tread all round.

Other than that, if you like it once you've test drove it, buy it mate as it looks like a very nice example indeed. Just try and shave a few quid off or ask for a full tank of fuel etc....

Judging by the mint Lupo you have/had, you seem to be reasonably savvy with cars so you'll know what to look for.

Hi Pete and welcome :)

I bought my first zed (2.5 2003 car) a few weeks ago and there's lots of help and advice on here so get reading. With the benefit of hindsight I'd say check the following -
- roof operates smoothly and goes up and down without stalling or making unusual noises ( the motors are prone to dying due to a bad design of placement)
- check to see if rear springs are snapped (another common but relatively cheap issue)
- has it still got run flat tyres? These give a very harsh ride and most owners change them for non run flats over time.
- check the boot for water ( the roof vents get blocked easily and flood), also the boot- mounted third brake light is prone to cracking (another source of boot water leaks)
-the 1-2-3 gear changes can feel abit notchy due to a clutch delay valve (this is normal and can be easily removed)

Other than that I've been really pleased with mine, that inline6 engine sounds great :)

Good luck

Hi Pete
Just check to see if the roof motor has been replaced ever. I think it's fair to say it will break at some point and you will need to budget £600-800 for a replacement. Check the bushes and springs if you can but they are cheap to replace.
Apart from those the engine is bullet proof and will give you max grin factor :D enjoy

Hi and welcome. Just to say that I bought my Z a few months ago and everyone on here was as helpful, straightforward and forthcoming as they could be. Trust your own eyes. You've obviously bought and sold a few vehicles in your time. The same rules apply. BUT. With any ragtop: look and FEEL inside the boot for damp patches. Check out the carpets behind the seats for the same... but I don't think this is a Z4 weakness. And then once you've splurged the cash, drop the roof and enjoy. I love mine. I think you will too.

Hi and welcome aboard
Take a look at AlanJ's buyers check list - http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21281#p300458

Hello Pete and welcome to the forum! I literally JUST bought my Z4C from that garage about a month ago, Grant was brilliant easy to deal with and a properly down to earth bloke. I did have a little look over this car while I was in and from what I seen she is a good example, I had watched Performance Ecosse for some time as they always seem to have lovely examples of various cars and when looking for my Zed I always checked their stock.

Not sure how local you are to them (I'm just on the other side of the water in Fife) if you want me to fire along with you mate just give me a shout!

Regardless I can only mirror what has been said, get in the car take her out and get a feel for the car, check for the weak spots like the roof motor and have a good look through the history.
