Hi all,

Was so fed up of lockdown and no chance of any holidays or breaks, did a ridiculous impulse buy and bought a 2004 2.2 Z4 Roadster.

I know it's the baby engine, but it's good fun to drive.
Has got service history and is pretty good bodywork wise.
Had it serviced and checked over with my garage, all good.

Only thing I've noticed so far is it does not like storm Christophe so is a little damp.
Not surprised really with the age, but looking on the forum leaks can come from a number of places.
Pretty rubbish with DIY stuff on cars, so will maybe look for a good independent in South Wales to do any stuff needed.

From looking at other posts I see main advice is to relocate the roof motor? Is it badly positioned originally?

I'm sure I'll have plenty of other questions coming! :D

Welcome to the madhouse. It seems you are mad enough for membership to be granted.
2.2 isn't quite the 'baby', but even if it was, who cares as long as you enjoy it?

Yes, the roof motor is terribly positioned, but I'm sure your research on here will have told you that already.
I believe there is someone in Bristol who is a relocation expert (Number5?) so once the floods recede and lockdown ends you should be able to get it sorted.

Of course, the first thing is, where are the photos of this impulse buy of yours?

Welcome to the Forum, good advice above, get that motor relocated, Alan (Number 5) is in Bristol so just over the bridge depending where you are in South Wales. I use a good Indy, Bryn Motor Workshop Contact info

Thanks all - definitely sounds like the motor move is an ASAP.
Will look at Alan Number5 as closest.
I did see Zed Shed but that's in Preston, a little far.

Great choice/ fantastic even if ridiculous decision!!
Loads of info on here, if the car seems damp and might be a while until covid allows for roof motor relocation it might worthwhile reading up on the drain tubes that take water from the roof and exit forward of the rear wheels. They are smallish in diameter and get blocked, that can cause roof motor issues and overflow of water into the cabin. You need to find something to 'rod' the tube from the underside of the car, if that makes sense. Removing rear wheels makes the job easier

Hi and welcome aboard.

Some good advice there about the roof motor - it's always worth getting it moved into the boot while it still works!

I doubt you are the only person who has made an impulse purchase thanks to Covid, and there's nothing wrong with buying a 2.2i if you enjoy it - at least it's still a straight 6!

Did anyone mention photos yet?

Welcome buddy!

I’ve done similar to you- 04 2.2 project

Feel free to shout if you need help with anything I think I’ve done a fair few things!

Cracking forum on here too-

Welcome!

Well, I also bought 2.2 in June and I have to say it's a nice engine. Drove it 220km/h on highway and it reached that easily, at least it felt like that and that is the only thing that matters :D

You will enjoy it!

Welcome matey.
Is that the same engine that was in the last of the Z3's? I had a 2001 Z3 2.2i and the engine noise was the standout feature of the car. Never seemed to handle very well but a great noise to take your mind off it.

Enjoy the lockdown, you can find things out about the car you never thought possible!

Thanks all.
Got some sun in Cardiff, so here's a couple of pics.
She's nicely shined up and had some waterproofing on the roof. It was soaking in the inner layer. ☔
