I have just got a Sdrive 28i in Mineral Grey ...any tips for a new owner?
I have heard I may be able to use Siri, but cant get it to link? Or do you need the snap in connector thing for that to work?

Morning the drift,
Please introduce yourself in the newbie area of the forum, as this is the sites procedures of courtesy
Many thanks

Welcome and congrats on the Z acquisition. The snap holders do not provide additional functionality (e.g. Just a means of keeping your phone in place within the console). What model year is your car?

Welcome aboard!

Never bothered with the snap in connector, my Galaxy phone works fine over bluetooth wherever it is.

Any any ideas for a third party type snap in adapter, the seem like a neat solution , but for an iPhone 6 they sure are pricey!!

Welcome mate, I'm a new driver of 28i too!

Not sure if this helps but it'll be interesting to see what people keep in their car. I keep:
Baby wipes (great for both leather seats and wiping bird poo off the car) and microfiber cloth
Torch
Micro USB cable to recharge the phone
USB "stick" http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LLER2CSpsc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00
Gloves
Wooly hat
Deicer
Sunglasses
Tire goo and Michelin tire inflator

P.s. USB is better for music as you can put album art on the screen as well as having playlists.

I still don't see the point of the snap in thingy.

My phone works fine over the car system where it is (in my pocket or in a briefcase in the boot usually), leaves the armrest console free for other stuff like my garage door remote and a USB stick with all my music on it.

PS great looking car!

Thanks really liking it so far. I quite I've the idea of showing album artwork on the dash, so I think I will try plugging in by usb and see how that goes.

If I got an iPod and left it in the armrest and connected my phone by Bluetooth would the music cut off and let me take a call. Can you get album artwork via USB in which case I could dispense with the iPod and just use a usb stick?

I am really liking the car so far but it's not been 48 hours yet! Sorry for the questions but I come from the world of Audi and they do things slightly differently! Only thing a really miss is my digital speedo!

I used an Ipod for ages in the armrest USB socket but then I copied all my ITunes files onto a USB stick just to try it out really. I swear it actually sounds a bit better (deeper bass, crispier treble). The onboard software sorts out the albums and displays info on the screen, it seems to handle folders OK. I find album artwork a bit hit and miss with both the Ipod and USB stick methods, never figured out why. Sometimes it displays other times not. I'm not really that bothered as long as the music plays OK! Yes, if a phone call comes in the music cuts out.

My wife has an Audi and I must say I prefer the BMW system.

Well if you use a snap in adaptor the phone signal is boosted by it using the cars ariel to ensure the strongest signal possible.

OK probably useful if you have bad reception but it's never been a problem for me :)

Exactly 9 times out of 10 it's good enough but then I'm not really one for using the phone to have calls whilst driving. I do like the fact I can play my music via the cradle whilst it charges and it means that I can have 3 music inputs in addition to the stereo system and hard drive. I know I can also use the Bluetooth function for music and/or the cable that also charges as it plays.

I really should put all my music on to one source but I can't be bothered.

Ah the hard drive! Tried it once, but it took so long to copy mp3s to it that I gave up. I just use a USB stick in the armrest socket these days, job done. The notion of updating the hard drive with new music filled me with dread.

BTW Angie, what's your opinion on Bluetooth as standard on all e89s? I thought it was, but I'm having a mild disagreement with someone about this :D
