Ah the hard drive! Tried it once, but it took so long to copy mp3s to it that I gave up. I just use a USB stick in the armrest socket these days, job done. The notion of updating the hard drive with new music filled me with dread.

BTW Angie, what's your opinion on Bluetooth as standard on all e89s? I thought it was, but I'm having a mild disagreement with someone about this :D

Ah I leave the items to copiy whilst I listen to something else

With regards to Bluetooth, this wasn't always a standard option. When first launched and until the facelift I think it was an option and it was £245 optional extra unless you opted for the connectivity package at around £610 which gave Bluetooth with telematics, telephone USB audio interface and USB interface. You'd think that it would be standard but for a long time it's been BMWs option to charge for it

I paid £280 for the Audi connectivity kit (2011 A4) it was a small flimsy plastic tray in the glove box with a wire to plug your iPod into..

I assume that was the USB Audio Interface, code 6FL which could be purchased separately or as part of the Connectivity Package. Interesting the things you needed to pay for before but then they list price changed to reflect these changes.

I sound like I really need to get out more!

AFAIK, The earlier cars used a different ComBox that didn't support Bluetooth audio A2DP, (Pre 2010 I think) even with the iDrive. I think there was also an 8gb limit on USB drives, and no ability to update the firmware for new phones through the web portal.

Thanks guys loving the car so far, I have decided to use a USB drive for the music, but the Idrice can't read my music straight out of iTunes, currently converting to mp3's to see if that solves the problem...but it's lost the art work :(
