new member- looking for Z4 Coupe

I dont think I came across correctly in the statement. E85s are not stark ugly on their own but in comparison to the coupe I believe they are.

As for the X4 its the best looking car out there right now :-)

The Irish disagree

Must admit re my earlier comment that I havent looked at a coupe so spoke without knowledge. My view about any sports coupe is that you get the disadvantage of only having two seats but not the advantage of being able to enjoy roof down motoring.
However will make a point of having a good look at the coupe but is it any different from the roadster apart from having a hardtop.

Same build, same tech, the only difference is the coupe only comes in 3.0l and M 3.2l variants. I see your point about the roadster side but for me im just not a roadster fan .. never have been.

I think that's the point there, what is your actual desire/requirement: top down motoring or a the z4coupe specifically?

The post did say looking for a coupe? So I'd assume that's you're 1st requirement.

The coupe will have a more rigid shell so the ride will be "different", you also get a rather large practical hatch boot space which I guess is a bonus, but you don't get full top down, however motoring with all windows down isn't exactly painful, but it's not a vert. However relative exclusivity is something that you will get and with that maybe decent depreciation.

What is your next priority? Driving dynamics vs residuals vs maintenance vs anything else?

If you have £10k if you go for roadie or coupe with an M in it, then you can't really go wrong...

Can never understand why anyone would insist on the coupe. I dont have any problem with them but for a car designed as a two seater top down car why have a permanent roof on it. If you dont want to put the roof down then just leave it up. A coupe must reflect poorly in resale value and limit your choice.

I couldnt disagree more. The E86 epitomises a good looking sleek lined coupe while the roadster is a stark ugly contrast in comparison. The roof completely destroys the look of the car top up or top down. This is of course just my personal taste & opinion but im sure a lot of coupe owners will agree with me.

For me the Coupe is something special but the roadster is just another car.. Sorry if this offends anyone this is not the intent of this post.

Amen sir . Plus you get a use-able boot along with the drop-dead styling.

Oof, nearly a can of worms this thread. The coupé's looks are a massive draw for many owners - it is for me. Not bothered which came first, the coupé does not have an unresolved design, for instance - it looks like it was in their plans from the start (even if it wasn't). Leave the OP choosing a coupé, he'll not go far wrong... Final thought is that the difference in price between some 3L and M coupés really is surprisingly small - but the maintenance will make the difference. Just my thoughts.

I agree - also if the op is open to the auto I recommend driving both as I much preferred the auto.

I wouldn't own a Z4 if they hadn't made the M Coupe. I'd only really want an open top car if it was something like a Westfield etc.
Good luck with you search OP

What coupe owners need to remember is that their car wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the superior roadster.

but the truth is the coupe is an aesthetic upgrade to the roadster, far greater on the eye :)

The coupe was actually designed alongside the roadster as a special project but not given the go ahead for production until 2005. So it's far from being an afterthought. Here's the proof.
