I’ve had mine for 1 week now and loving it!
It’s done loads of miles 175000. Feels great in sports mode! Head lights have condensation. Electric hood stopped working today. Motor’s in the boot though! Cracked grill but a new pair are on the way. The emissions warning light is on but a Fault code reader is on the way. It’s lost an “i” after 3.0 and the BMW badge at the front is looking very sad. Seats red but scuffed. I would post photos but don’t know how to yet 🙄

Welcome aboard.
175k is just about run in. :D
Happy to help out with the roof if you like.
The emissions light could be due to an air leak. Intake pipes are known for splitting.
Doesn't sound like you have any insurmountable issues with it.

Most likely, the headlights have condensation due to the back access cover lining deteriorating. You can buy a brand headlight access cover relatively inexpensively. You could also inspect the whole assembly carefully to make sure there aren't any cracks. They're pretty well built, so unless the car's been in an accident, it's most likely those back covers deteriorating.

Don't buy a knock-off BMW emblem. Buy OEM because they're built to last... kind of pricey, but worth it. You might be able to find a 3.0i emblem on Ebay or a local junk yard. Otherwise, buy a new OEM one.

I bought my 2.5i with about 165k miles on it. I put a lot of money into mine as it wasn't well taken care of. It drives like a dream right now now.

You might also consider changing out all the bulbs on the headlights while you're at it. Are they bi-xenon or halogen?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

To post a photo on the left below the box you type in there is an "Add files" button, click on that then select your photo.

The front badges on Z4s are a different size to any other BMW so really a dealer is the only option. I paid £40 for one in 2019. They will have gone up but Cotswold BMW and Sopers of Lincoln give a discount if you mention the forum. When you take the old one off don't lose the riv-nuts that hold it on from the back as new badges don't come with new nuts.

My black beauty 😀

Glad to see you figured out how to post pics. She looks good! As others have said, the issues can be easily addressed. Fixing up those headlights will go a long way

Thanks for the reassurance. I might need your help with the roof. I can’t believe it was working fine and then stopped!

It sounds good that you brought your 2.5 back to like! Thanks for your advice. I’m going to start by making the roof work again, then tackle the aesthetics.

No worries at all. Can’t be that hard to sort and I have a box full of spares

For the roof, double check that the tray position is in the lower position. When I bought my 2.5i, the roof wasn't working. The seller told me it hadn't worked in months and just suddenly stopped. I figured the motor had gotten wet or just failed. I started poking around in the boot and noticed the knobs for the tray were in different positions. I adjusted them then tried the roof - nothing. I adjusted them the opposite way (down position), and voila!! IT WORKED!! The seller, a friend of mine, was a little miffed because the price was partially based on the roof not working. haha

I knew nothing about how the roof worked or the tray position, so that was lucky on my part and not so smart on his part. The weird thing is that he took to a BMW service center and they said the roof needed completely replacement.... thousands of dollars. Sheesh!!

It's worked flawlessly the whole time I've had it, although the canvas is now in bad shape and has to be replaced.

I went for a drive on Friday and my roof opened and closed, twice! I’m aware of the boot shelf that can be raised if you want more boot height, but it needs lowering to fit the hood in. It was pretty cold out there, even with the heating blasting out hot, but it was worth it. I got a good shot at Kimbolton Castle (now a school) but I wish I had the top down for that photo. So my roof is temperamental and I don’t know why.

Just had my roof fixed! Seems like it's an ongoing challenge to keep them working. I had my motor relocated into the boot to de-risk water ingress!

The nearest roof gurus to you are probably enuff-zed in Attleborough or bigwinn in Lincoln.

Cheers Mr T.
I've actually contacted Aaron regarding this, suggesting we should take a look at the wiring loom in the roof.
